Description
The New Business Development Manager will be a member of the Market & Customer Development group (M&CD) and will concentrate on growing new sources of customer revenue across BASF’s business units in North America. Three such managers will be hired to work as a team during a three year assignment designed to accelerate the process of identifying, evaluating and pursuing opportunities for new business development with select customers. The team’s target is to generate $500 million in new revenue per year by the year 2020, beyond what BASF’s businesses are currently projecting to generate in North America. This three member team will be expected to analyze existing and/or new BASF customers, focusing on opportunities in markets and industries not currently served by BASF. Some of the customer reviews will result in the formation of NA 2020 cross-BU Customer Teams. The manager responsible for the analysis of that customer will also serve as the M&CD representative to the subsequent cross-BU Customer Team, helping the team develop a business case for securing the targeted revenue on BASF’s behalf.

The Corporate New Business Development Manager must:

• Become familiar with BASF’s portfolio, across all of its businesses, in order to match BASF’s core competencies with the unmet needs of identified customers in order to initiate or expand a customer’s overall purchase profile from BASF
• Interact with North American business units, understanding their market strategies and determining their relative interest in pursuing new business at targeted customers
• Be able to assess business and societal trends and developments quickly and apply that knowledge so as to match emerging unmet customer needs with BASF’s portfolio of competencies
• Serve as a key advisor to cross business teams (~8 - 10 people) chartered to develop business cases to pursue targeted revenue opportunies
• Translate cross business Customer Team recommendations into required resources from other parts of the organization to enable team objectives to be achieved

Principal Responsibilities

Business Performance Management
• Develop and refine an effective target customer evaluation process for identifying customer profiles with the highest probability of commercial success
• Access multiple information sources in order to compile a meaningful analysis of a target customer, including their specific market needs that BASF could capture with its portfolio
• Confer with marketing, business management and new business development personnel throughout BASF’s North American businesses to assess opportunities at identified target customers
• Coordinate new business development opportunities with both existing business strategies as well as with NA 2020 Industry and Customer Teams

Communication Management
• Develop effective communications to sufficiently summarize and explain to senior management the benefits for pursuing a specific customer

Leadership
• Help guide cross-business Customer Teams in the successful development of strategies to secure identified new business development opportunities

Qualifications
- 8+ years of corporate experience in one or a combination of the following fields: sales, marketing, new business development, R&D, market research and/or market intelligence

The Ames site(s) joined the BASF family as part of the Becker Underwood acquisition, and is the former world headquarters of Becker Underwood. The Distributor Account Manager (DAM) is responsible for:
- Acting as the primary interface with our Distribution network servicing BASF Corporation, managing a broad product portfolio in the Southeastern United States and Puerto Rico; interfacing with key management personnel and distributors for businesses serviced.
- Acting as a central point of contact for distributors requiring assistance in putting together customer sales proposals.
- Identification of new business opportunities and the enhancement of existing distributor relationships, market share and profitability, coordinate business resources to take advantage of those opportunities. - Coordinates with business units on the establishment of appropriate distributor training programs and assists in the implementation of the training programs.
- Ensures that business units use appropriate credit upon proof of shipment (CUPS) procedures to document our agreements on distributor support activities at specific accounts.
- Advises Distribution Management on all matters pertaining to distributor channel involvement.
- Assists Distribution Management in assessing channel needs and in the selection of appropriate distributors.
