BASF, “The Chemical Company” is seeking candidates for an Environmental Specialist position in the Ohio, Michigan, Canada Hub. This position is located in Wyandotte, MI.

The selected individual reporting to the Hub EHS Team Leader will provide professional, technical environmental support to Wyandotte Site operations. The individual will also be actively involved in supporting the continued implementation and maintenance of the Hub compliance assurance system, RegAction® WebCMS®. The position will provide supervisory support to the Wyandotte waste management service organization. The selected individual will contribute to maintaining site environmental compliance through coordination and support of the site’s compliance assurance process, and providing oversight of the site’s waste service provider. The selected individual will also be responsible for ensuring compliance of the site’s NPDES permit including management of the site’s wastewater program.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement processes and procedures designed to ensure the Wyandotte site’s compliance with Environmental permits, and other corporate and regulatory requirements.
- Manage the implementation and maintenance of the RegAction® WebCMS® process for the Wyandotte and provide assistance to other Hub sites.
- Review, revise, and develop training in the site’s electronic training system (Mockingbird) on the applicable environmental rules and requirements for Manufacturing, Laboratory and Services personnel.
- Identify and assist in the investigation of air (Title V, NESHAP, etc.), water (NPDES waste water permit and POTW Permit), storm water, and hazardous waste management deviations. Participate in the root cause analysis (RCA) process and assist in the development and implementation of corrective actions to prevent/reduce deviations for the sustainable operations of the units/site.
- Work with the units and sites to identify continuous improvement opportunities to reduce waste.
- Collect and submit for analysis all compliance samples for waste water discharges at the Wyandotte North and South Works.
- Manage the data entry for all waste water compliance permits including assembly of all periodic compliance reports.
- Collect and submit operational waste water samples collected at the North and South Works for the purposes of identifying process upsets.
- Review and submit for payment and track spending for waste management service invoices related to the third party waste services contract for the Wyandotte Site.

Qualifications:

Required
- Associates Degree in Applied Sciences or other science related field required.
- Entry level position. Candidates that have participated in EHS internships or Co-ops strongly desired.
- Proven track record of working in a team environment. Must possess a strong technical/problem solving aptitude and be data driven. Able to solve problems by identifying and engaging appropriate resources.
- Must show strong initiative, be self-motivated, and work with minimal supervision.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred
- BS degree in Environmental Science/Studies, Chemistry, or Biology preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years with relevant experience in manufacturing or other industry/environmental role.
- Background in environmental, health and safety in manufacturing or related roles is a plus.
- SAP experience in creating purchase requisitions and purchase orders strongly recommended. Additional SAP experience is desirable.

Description
- Issue and compile monthly reports and other various reports for internal use, business group and upper management
- Participate and/or take a lead in ISO/QS 9000 implementation/maintenance to include management of Documentum database.
- Input information into SAP and other reports as well as act as primary contact for other SAP users.
- Monitor raw material inventories and supply to assure no production loss.
- Coordinate with suppliers on operating problems, outage plans or quality issues in the plant or at the supplier. Handle issues with suppliers as appropriate and approved by the Supervisor.
- Maintain raw material inventory control and replenishment, assist finite planner with finished goods inventory control.
- Serve as the contact person for various software packages, projects, etc?(within dept and externally).
- Accounting responsibilities including compilation of total plant cost information, resolution of mischarges, and assisting with month-end closing (balancing all inventories).
- Post daily production and enter transfer orders as needed.
- Schedule unloading of all raw materials.
- Make necessary changes to BOMs and routings.
- Serve as production liason with procurement and supply chain.
- Participate in S&OP meetings.
- Support annual physical inventory and periodic cycle counts.
- Reconcile / audit invoices.
- Type technical reports from rough draft, follow-up as requested, and distribute typed material to designated personnel.
- Prepare detailed presentations, reports, etc.. by using various software packages as required.
- Relieve supervisor of detail work by answering correspondence that does not require a dictated reply, by handling telephone calls, scheduling appointments, making travel arrangements, and preparing reports.
- Maintain departmental files both routine and/or of a confidential nature.
- Order and distribute departmental office supplies; maintain technical literature supplies
- Operator various office machines incidential to job duties
- Follow BASF safety rules and promote their observance in the performance of job duties
- Perform other duties similar in nature and degree of difficulty as required and/or assigned for each plant/dept.
- Backup Finite Planner and Scheduler function as necessary as well as Supply Chain Planner for EO/FA/Glyoxal.
- Assist L & D Coordinator with administering and documentation of Mockingbird training.

High school diploma or equivalent and minimum 5+ years of experience in a chemical/petrochemical or other similar manufacturing environment required.

- Strong communication skills both verbal and written are required
- Familiarity with the unit, technology, and work environment (or similar) a plus.
- Must have demonstrated high levels of initiative, innovation, and accuracy.

Description
The Learning and Development coordinator has the primary responsibility to develop a world class training program which yields a highly effective, high performing, motivated and safe workforce focused on continuous improvement. The position will develop and maintain a standardized training process that complies with all regulatory and Corporate requirements. The position will collaborate with peer and corporate L&D.

This job is responsible for ensuring that professional and team development training, technical training, etc. is completed to promote effectiveness, consistency and continuous improvement to the training process in a cost effective manner.

Principal Responsibilities
- Develop and provide unit specific training including refresher training, capital project training, special needs training, etc.
- Involved in qualification assessment decisions
- Conduct hands-on training for unit specific material
- Audit and ensure proper training documentation
- Develop program/curriculum for unit specific training
- Maintain and update of all training materials (paper, electronic, and other media)
- Balance computer-based, classroom, and hands-on training to maximize effectiveness

§ Minimize costs by maintaining the training schedules and coordinating training for operator qualification

§ Support coordination of common training across site for shift personnel (HAZWOPER, fire brigade, etc.); schedule unit personnel to attend specific training

§ Coordinate all site and corporate training initiatives within the site, including developing the training material if required

§ Act as the primary site liason in coordinating training grants for the site

§ Coordinate and maintain shift schedules and oversee overtime schedule
- All other duties as assigned by supervisor

Knowledge and Experience Required:
