Description
The Sustainability and Product Stewardship Manager coordinates all sustainability and global product stewardship initiatives within BASF Functional Crop Care (APG). They are an active member of Divisional sustainability strategy development efforts and serves as APG’s representative on any value chain sustainability projects that involve the APG portfolio. In addition, represent BASF as an expert in external sustainability and/or stewardship initiatives and workgroups as relevant to APG. The job role implies a close cooperation with Communications, regional sales/marketing personnel and Agricultural Products Development.

1. Sustainability: Develop APG sustainability strategy, implement and manage Sustainability initiatives and activities for the unit, closely coordinating with appropriate stakeholders. Ensure sustainability is incorporated into portfolio and product development strategies. Be an active member of Divisional sustainability strategy development efforts.

2. Global Product Stewardship: Determine potential product stewardship and risk mitigation measures needed for APG products / portfolio. Responsibilities for implementation of global product stewardship measures in the regions as needed, in close coordination with regional regulatory and marketing personnel.

3. APG Sustainability Representative: Serve as APG’s representative on any value chain sustainability project that involve APG portfolio and on key internal global (e.g. Global Product Stewardship and Sustainability Team, Global Food Chain Team, relevant core teams etc), support APG strategy and customers, work as a global team with other regions and business unit. This may be combined with representing APN’s sustainability interests

4. External Sustainability Initiatives: Represent BASF and APG as an expert in sustainability in chosen external agriculture- related sustainability initiatives (global and regional), influence and promote science-based approach, look for opportunities and threats, support our customers and freedom to operate. Provide information, guidance, and leadership to other functions and business units concerning sustainability. Coordinate with global and lead country regulatory staff in representing APG topics of sustainability and specific product stewardship plans or measures.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Required:
- PhD in Science (e.g. Environmental Science, Toxicology, Chemistry, Biology etc.), with 15 years of work experience, a majority of which needs to be in the agriculture crop protection business.
- Minimum 5 years of work experience in regulatory support or sustainability role for conventional crop protection.
- Must have a strong knowledge of at least 4 of following 7 areas: product stewardship, environmental fate and impacts, risk assessments, environmental exposure, human and worker exposure, risk management, and agriculture sustainability.
- Experience working on global and country sustainability teams and product stewardship teams (internally within a company and/or externally).

Product Manager, US Crop

BASF Agricultural Products is seeking a Crop Protection Product Manager to:

1. Under supervision from Sr. Marketing Manager, develop, manage and implement crop business plans which include situation analysis of markets, projections of future events, objectives, strategies, and tactical plans and post evaluations of results.
2. Identify market needs and communicate product attributes aligned with market needs and regulatory requirements.
3. Develop and update product concepts detailing mid and long-term strategies for assigned products, submitted for supervisor approval.
4. Actively participate as marketing representative on Project Teams, providing input for justification, approval, development, and introduction of new projects to commercialization
5. Develop market introduction plans for new products including internal coordination to bring the assigned product to market with external focus on development and implementation of positioning, messaging, and value proposition.
6. Coordinate with other key internal and external groups to ensure product-related plans are implemented.
7. Evaluate, negotiate, and implement specific 3rd party opportunities.

The overall goal of this position is to provide technical leadership on the BASF fungicide portfolio with special emphasis on Plant health related research for internal and external customers. The Technical Market Specialist assumes responsibility and leadership for all technical elements (biological research, labels, technical editing, product use direction, training materials, recommendations, and technical positioning) of assigned products. The manager is accountable for the product line technical support to the sales and marketing functions with the mission to increase net income via key operating objectives of increasing sales and maintaining the technical integrity of product positions.

Marketing support is achieved by direct interaction with specific marketing crop group units in the development and implementation of its annual business plans. Accountability for the income objectives of the crop groups are shared by the technical market manager. Support of the sales organization to achieve income objectives occurs primarily via interaction with resourcing of the technical service representatives.

Principal responsibilities for assigned products/crops include:

1) Technical assessment and sustainable technical recommendations for product positioning, labeling and for inclusion in business plans,

2) Technical training and direction to Tech Service reps using a variety of presentation and persuasion tools,

3) Business to business technical leadership in interactions with Marketing, Sales, Biology, Regulatory, channel partners and KIPs,

4) identification, prioritization and pursuit of new opportunities (label improvements, Sec 18s & 24c, 2ee and label extensions),
