We are seeking a Senior Scientist, Pigment Dispersions & Resins to join our team. The Dispersions & Resins business of BASF develops, produces and markets a range of high-quality resins, additives, colorants and polymer dispersions worldwide. These raw materials are used in formulations for coatings and paints, printing and packaging products, construction chemicals, adhesives, fiberbondings, nonwovens, and paper manufacturing.

Senior Scientist I or II, Pigment Dispersions (1701539) – Charlotte, NC

The Senior Scientist will be part of the Research & Development team and will be based in Charlotte, NC and support the overall success of the Dispersions & Resins business in North America.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Design and develop new pigment dispersions for water-borne architectural coatings.
- Investigate fundamental aspects of the interactions between the individual formulation components of a pigment dispersion.
- Work closely with our regional business partners to analyze the market and help identify unmet customer needs.
- Help strengthen relationships with key customers via joint product development activities.
- Stay current with scientific and technical advances in your working field and help identify innovation opportunities.
- Establish and maintain close working relationships with colleagues across the regions.
- Direct activities of assigned technician(s) toward achieving project objectives, and mentor their career development.
- Establish and maintain a safe and healthy work environment by being aware of and implementing company wide and site safety policies/procedures.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…
- Ph.D. degree in polymer or material science, chemical engineering, organic chemistry or another related technical field and minimum 2+ years of industry experience in coatings/paints formulation

-OR- Master's degree in polymer or material science, chemical engineering, organic chemistry or another related technical field and 5 years of industry experience in coatings/paint formulation

-OR- Bachelor's degree in polymer or material science, chemical engineering, and organic chemistry or another related technical field and 7 years of industrial experience in coatings/paint formulation required
- Prior experience developing pigments, pigment dispersion or pigment formulation is strongly preferred
- Excellent hands-on experimentation and superior problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work and partner effectively with individuals outside of own organization
