Where the Chemistry Happens…

The Operations Manager is responsible for the production and logistics department at the Erie, PA site. This position ensures the safe and efficient manufacture and shipment of custom and proprietary catalysts that meet high standards for product performance and quality. This role is an integral member of the site leadership team responsible for driving change relative to the site’s strategy, performance, and culture.

- Protect the environment by ensuring compliance with all State and Federal regulations, by meeting BASF environmental standards, and increasing environmental awareness within the operations department.
- Ensure safety of personnel and processes through effective implementation of exposure reduction processes and process safety management.
- Drive a culture where breakthrough performance, an enjoyable work environment, and safety is a valued expectation of all team members.
- Meet plant targets for safety, quality, cost, volumes, and other relevant KPI’s. Establish, track, and meet other objectives consistent with site and business operations, including the management of plant standards for operations. Ensure such targets are included in the formal goals and objectives for employees.
- Provide inspirational leadership to the production and logistics teams and develop staff to their full potential.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement that develops and implements strategies to optimize productivity, quality, and fixed and variable costs.
- Direct engineering resources to participate in engineering design and equipment modification efforts to improve asset utilization, safety, product quality, yield, and costs.
- Must be self-directed, requiring minimal supervision. Supervisor’s approval and resolution of matters are required very infrequently and only at a high level.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline required.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in chemical manufacturing, demonstrating strong business acumen. Previous management experience is a plus.
- Sense of ownership and accountability regarding EHS issues at the site, and driving a zero incident and loss of containment mindsets in all interactions.
- Strong analytical skills and understanding of Operational Excellence improvement tools in a manufacturing environment.
- Skillful in leading change through questioning the status quo, and championing improvement initiatives to create and sustain business results.
- Demonstrated collaborative leadership skills to build and nurture an environment of teamwork and ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel in a matrix organization.
