Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are seeking a Functional Unit Controller, in our Florham Park, NJ location, to be a key decision-maker and business partner to the leadership team of our Corporate Communications department. S/he will be directly responsible for the financial reporting and evaluation of internal controls, and will use their strong influencing skills to help steer long- and short-term results.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Serve as an integral member of the Leadership Team, with an expectation to provide guidance regarding ideas, proposals, and strategies beyond the bounds of your function. Proactively challenge the management team to ensure forecasts and plans are fully vetted and consider both the short- and long-term impact of business topics/issues. Be a willing decision-maker amongst the leadership team.
- Manage the charitable giving program for North America, including monthly reporting, preparation of information for BASF Foundation board meetings, submission of annual PSR reporting, and ownership of the annual budget process. Serve as the single point-of-contact for ad hoc requests from regional counterparts and the Global Corporate Citizenship team.
- Coordinate the function’s service demand management process, including service- level agreement negotiation with recipient units and monthly allocations.
- Organize monthly spend reviews, forecasting process, and annual budget development cycle. This includes timely preparation, integrity, and accuracy of reporting, along with thorough analysis of the results and projections for the future to facilitate effective management decision-making.
- Comment on functional developments and their impact on financial results and upcoming forecasts. Actively track and report on contingency items impacting budgets, both to the Leadership Team and Controlling functional leadership.
- Serve as a change agent within the Functional Unit to proactively identify and implement opportunities for key process efficiencies to improve overall business/financial operations.
- Provide support in financial controls and compliance by supporting annual internal and external audits.
- Perform other ad-hoc analysis and project work to support needs of the Function Leadership Team, and Controlling function.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline; CPA, CIA, CFE, or MBA preferred.
- At least 5 years of relevant professional experience.
- Cross-functional team involvement.
- Ability to explain business and financial information to team members without a finance background.
- Ability to quickly comprehend core financial processes and practices, inclusive of relevant statutory requirements (e.g., management accounting, cost accounting, SAP, and other technical requirements).
- Strong hands-on computer skills: working knowledge of Windows and Word. Excel expertise required, SAP highly desirable.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated planning and follow-up skills and results focus.
- Demonstrated analytical skills.
