Where the Chemistry Happens…

The Market & Customer Development team (M&CD) is seeking a candidate who is motivated to help BASF grow with its most strategic customers. M&CD is responsible for creating, onboarding, and supporting the strategic customer networks that comprise the Customers First/Winning Together strategy, and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to improve his/her knowledge of how BASF approaches and grows with its most strategic customers in North America.

It is anticipated that the successful incumbent will be a primary promotional candidate for future openings in the group.

Strategic Customer Manager (1705477) – Florham Park, NJ

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Support several of the world-class, state-of-the-art tools and processes used by M&CD to expand business in a B2B setting (e.g., QuickLead, What BASF Does, the Customer Unmet Needs Database, and TECH CHECK).
- Collaborate with multiple experts, both inside and outside the department, to drive new business development opportunities across numerous industries and strategic customers.
- Recommend and implement streamlined processes for managing highly complex activities involved with identifying unmet customer needs, and ensuring the organization acts quickly to assess those needs, identify solutions, and bring them to the customer’s attention.
- Conduct market research across multiple industries, review BASF technology offerings, and work with business unit and Marketing & Customer Development staff to identify strategic customers in related industry spaces whose market positions could be leveraged to provide new growth opportunities.
- Participate in the planning, execution, and post-event phases of the group’s What BASF Does Introduction and Connecting the Dots® programs.
- Interpret, analyze and report on financial information findings, and develop proposals for new customer and industry approaches.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related scientific/mathematical discipline; advanced degree in Business is highly desired.
- A minimum of 5 years of technical and/or commercial experience in a large, matrix corporate environment, or at least 3 years of experience for candidates who have successfully completed assignments in both a chemistry laboratory role as well as a new business development, sales, technical sales, and/or marketing role.
- Experience gathering and analyzing financial information as it relates to market trends, opportunities, and business case scenarios.
- Strong understanding and appreciation of the important strategic role played by M&CD on behalf of the entire North American organization, the contributions it makes to BASF’s bottom line, and the confidential nature of executive-level interactions undertaken with both businesses and functions
- Ability to communicate very clearly and convincingly in team settings, with other external stakeholders (including customers), and in formal presentations and reports. Demonstrated ability to collaborate openly and honestly with a diverse group of individuals
- Capability to inspire and drive projects and ideas to successful conclusions, working across multiple stakeholder networks.
- Strong customer focus orientation.
- Entrepreneurial spirit.
- Excellent collaboration skills within and across business and functional units; committed to being a team player.
- Experience with project management.
- Relative knowledge of BASF’s technology offerings and organizational structure.
