Description
The principal responsibilities of this position include:
- Provide expertise in the functional design and implementation of process automation applications, such as process control strategies, Human-Machine-Interface design, Manufacturing Execution System applications and KPI development
- Identify and develop cost/benefit analysis for potential new projects
- Implement APC applications, which will include developing the design, performing detailed engineering actvities, collaboration with various stakeholders to implement the applications and providing training.
- Sustain APC applications. Analyze and track performance. Identify and correct problems. Develop and provide additional training when required
- Provide leadership on project teams, which will include assisting with developing project approval packages, participate in approval review meetings, developing packages for contractors/vendors and perform contractractor selection
- Troubleshoot process control problems. Identify causes and make recommendations for improvements and/or implement improvements
- Continuous improvement of project execution and sustainment practices, ensuring alignment with other automation disciplines. Evaluation of new developments in advanced process control technology. Maintain overview of APC activities in the region. Share know how and act as expert in the field on a regional or global level. .

Required Skills/ Experience/ Education
- BS/MS in Chemical Engineering (preferred) or Electrical Engineering. BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education that are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
- 10+ yrs of experience in an Operations or Process Control environment
- Strong technical knowledge in Advanced Process Control engineering and control systems
- Must have strong technical knowledge in the fundamentals of unit operations, such as (batch) reactors, distillation towers, heat exchangers and extraction processes.
- Must have strong technical knowledge in the fundamentals of controls engineering and controls systems, and a basic knowledge of the various types of pressure, level, temperature, and flow instrumentation. Understand plant process control and advanced process control techniques and how they can be applied to monitor, control and/ or improve plant performance.
- Understanding of field instrumentation and control valve functionality
- Experience with the multiple DCS platforms will be required.
- Strong communication, computer skills, and organizational skills.

Desired Skills
- Demonstrated work experience implementing process control projects in the Refining or Petrochemicals industry.
- Having demonstrated work experience in identifying and implementing advanced process control projects in the Chemicals, Refining or Petrochemicals industry is an advantage.
- Experience with Aspentech DMCPlus, Romeo, and other similar software applications will be required, but can be acquired through developmental training while working in the position.
- Working knowledge of field instrumentation and control valves, including specifying and troubleshooting.
- Working knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS).
- Working knowledge of networking and interaction between DCS, SCADA, LARS, PIMS and IS systems.
- Knowledge of Fieldbus, Profibus, Asi-bus and other instrumentation communication networks and busses.
- Basic understanding of Advanced Process Control applications (such as Multivariable Predictive Control and Real Time Optimization) is an advantage

- Entrepreneurial Actions - Proactively obtains the necessary information and confidently makes timely decisions.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.
