Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are seeking a Process Development Chemist to provide direct Process Development and Analytical support to the Polycaprolactam Technology at the Freeport, TX, site.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- EHS: Provide support to Strategic Technologists in the safety concept development, updates and applications, as necessary and technical support to the Daily Execution team when conducting evaluations for EHS incidents, Process Hazard Analyses, Project Safety Reviews, Pre-Startup Safety Reviews, and MOC development and reviews to meet process safety and environmental requirements, as necessary.
- PRODUCTION SUPPORT: Provide technical support to operations, maintenance and the business in support of the production plan and plant trials. Recommend and maintain chemical manufacturing formulations and troubleshoot process or product formulary problems. Manage process for bringing and qualifying new chemicals and raw materials on site for the area supported by the lab. Provide technical support in root cause failure analysis for production and quality incidents
- TECHNICAL / BUSINESS SUPPORT: Provide technical Customer support by coordinating trials and new product launches with Technical Account Managers and developing/implementing plant formula and operation conditions. Assist with plant scale-up trials and Interface with Daily Production Execution and Technology Teams.
- PDQA TEAM: Be the technical resource for coaching and developing laboratory personnel into a high-performance team through the development and improvement of new and existing analytical methods and training the rest of the team.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with a minimum of 8 years of practical manufacturing laboratory experience in(process / product development support) the chemical/petrochemical or other similar manufacturing environment.
- Solid understanding of chemical manufacturing support.
- Must have strong organic and inorganic chemistry knowledge, exposure to polymer chemistry and proficiency in analytical techniques; must have knowledge of SPC and computer skills.
- Must have solid teamwork skills to interface with engineers, chemists, technicians and analysts to ensure smooth laboratory and plant operations.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.

- PhD or Master's in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering with minimum 5+ years chemical manufacturing and/or laboratory experience in the chemical/petrochemical or other similar manufacturing environment.
- Good troubleshooting, communications, teamwork and team leading skills.
- Knowledge of EHS procedures/standards.
- Knowledge of polymer characterization and/or polymer reaction, analytical methodology and development, and applications.
