Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are seeking an Instrument Technician to work in our Geismar, LA site and be responsible for performing daily task as part of a team to ensure safe, productive, and cost efficient maintenance of instrumentation and control systems.

Instrument Technician (1700929) – Geismar, LA

This position is responsible for performing daily tasks as part of a team to ensure safe, productive and cost efficient maintenance of instrumentation and control systems. Team services include testing, maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and repair activities for routine, extraordinary, and turnaround maintenance. As well, this position will be responsible for completing troubleshooting and planned jobs according to a daily work schedule.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Performs testing, troubleshooting, calibration, and repair of all unit instrumentation and control systems as planned, scheduled and assigned.
- Performs preventive and predictive maintenance activities, and recommends updates as required.
- Performs general administrative tasks such as: acquiring job permits from operations, accessing and printing daily schedules from SAP, entering work history and closing work orders in SAP, entering time in SAP, acquiring PM task list, accessing information from plant pipe specifications, and producing simple job plans.
- Works with outside vendors and/or contractors to acquire necessary information on installation, operation, and repair of instrumentation and control systems.
- Assists in delivering training programs and operating instructions to maintenance, engineering, and production personnel as required.
- Assists in maintaining instrumentation parts inventories adequate for the operating unit.
- Reviews manufacturers instruction books, trade papers, etc. Attends and participates in such training or professional group conventions, conferences, training seminars, and meetings as may be approved to maintain skills and keep abreast of constant changes in the field.
- Performs as technical leader during periods of process upsets during diagnosis of problems.
- Provides detailed description of work performed and parts used for equipment maintenance records.
- Contributes to proper documentation of files, records, databases, and drawings to meet regulatory and BASF requirements, and complies with current requirements as to equipment/materials specifications and vendor preferences.
- Seeks compliance with all environmental, safety, and health requirements, and promotes a safe working environment.
- May fill in as team leader or planner on a temporary basis due to their absence or special situations.
- Related duties as assigned.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Requirements:
- Minimum requirements to be hired into this position include completion of a technical or vocational school program for Industrial Instrumentation (equivalent military training may be evaluated as a substitute for this requirement)
- 5 years industrial experience regarding chemical plant instrumentation and control equipment maintenance a plus
- Successful completion of BASF Instrument Technician Hiring Process which includes testing, assessments, & interviews
- Must have technical competencies of knowledge of instrumentation and process control systems, instrument repair, calibration, troubleshooting, root cause failure analysis, and general computer skills
- SAP experience preferred

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.
