Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are seeking a Laboratory Team Leader for the Analytical Services department in our Geismar, LA location.

Laboratory Team Leader (1702367) – Geismar, LA

The Laboratory Team Leader reports to the Analytical Services Manager and is responsible for leading Geismar’s Surfactants and Polyol Laboratory in a safe and efficient manner. Monitoring of laboratory KPIs will be key to ensure areas of strength are maintained, and continuous improvement opportunities are identified and pursued. This position will lead a cGMP (Current Good Manufacturing Practice) and ISO9001 laboratory that must adhere to all FDA, ISO9001 systems, Responsible Care Management (RCMS), Kosher, and other regulatory or quality requirements. A critical success factor is having a strong partnership with our internal and external customers. The Laboratory Team Leader is responsible for leadership and development of employees in an organization of up to 22 direct and indirect reports.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Coach and develop laboratory employees (salaried and hourly) into high-performance teams that exemplify the culture and behaviors required by BASF. Participate in recruiting, interviewing, and selection of employees. Prepare and implement succession plans
- Drive a zero-incident safety culture and focus on initiatives driven to strengthen our safety culture as part of the Geismar Manufacturing Site.
- Partner with key stakeholders to develop goals for staff and execution teams that support department objectives.
- Drive implementation, monitor effectiveness, and take necessary actions to meet functional objectives.
- Provide coaching and direction to ensure the team successfully meet targets.
- Track team performance for success (KPIs/Metrics).
- Perform quality checks of executed work and utilize continuous feedback. Monitor and track team efficiency and quality of work.
- Support the use of LEAN manufacturing tools to identify waste and drive continuous improvement to enhance the overall work process and improve cost effectiveness and efficiency. Ensure consistent use of best practices within the team. Play a key role in reinforcing the SQC program by aligning with target agreements.
- Work with the Analytical Services Department and Operations to identify work priorities for the laboratory cGMP and non-cGMP organization.
- Ensure the laboratory is up-to-date on training and engages with Learning and Development Coordinator to continuously reinforce the training program, and is instrumental in the strategic development of new training modules.
- Support Out-of-Specification investigations associated with the cGMP environment.
- Partner with the Analytical Services Department to align financial targets and ensure financial budgets are tracked and maintained.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline required.
- A minimum of 8 years of chemical manufacturing/laboratory experience.
- Experience in leading team and/or regulatory projects.
- At least 2 years of proven wet chemistry laboratory experience is required.
- Knowledge of pharmaceutical industry, FDA regulations (ICH Q7), and good manufacturing practices.
- Awareness of international and domestic regulatory requirements as they apply to product release.
- Familiarity with validation of systems (e.g., manufacturing, quality, computer) is required.
- Possess working knowledge of the following instrumentation: GC, HPLC, KF Titration, Viscometry, and ICP-MS.
