Where the Chemistry Happens…

This position is part of the Analytical Services Department which supports operations and centralized laboratory organization by providing technical expertise, advanced troubleshooting techniques, and fostering continuous improvement.

Laboratory Technologist (1700924)

The Technologists will provide leadership to new technicians and less experienced technicians via mentoring and technical training, perform method development, assist with plant troubleshooting, and support special projects that are intra- and inter- laboratory in scope. The Technologist will serve as a technical resource to continuously improve lab procedures, equipment, and methodologies. A key area of focus will be to support Geismar Analytical Service’s statistical process/quality control program.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Ensure that instrumentation and testing apparatus are in proper working order
- Responsible for the training of new laboratory technicians
- Assemble and disassemble instrument and testing equipment, as required
- Exemplify positive work habits (i.e. time management, prioritization, and stewardship)
- Participates, as needed, in audits and technology exchanges
- Reviews, Validates, Development, and Writing of STI’s (Standard Technical Instructions)
- Performs analysis of samples using lab techniques such as spectrophotometry (UV-Vis, FT-IR, AA, ICP), chromatography (gas, liquid), mass spectroscopy, automatic titrations, and classical “wet” techniques
- Takes action when laboratory personnel require support, which can include working during off hours (e.g., evenings, weekends, etc.)
- Fill in as a Laboratory Technician during times of need
- Supports site continuous improvement initiatives (e.g. lean introduction in the laboratory and sustainability)
- Supports SQC and SPC laboratory initiative
- Fully supports Geismar Site EHS initiatives
- Ensures laboratory KPIs are routinely maintained and reported
- Serve as a key player in operations and laboratory tier meetings
- Execute EPA test procedures for water pollutant testing

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or other related technical discipline and a minimum 4+ years of chemical manufacturing/laboratory experience OR High School Diploma/Equivalent and minimum 8+ years of experience in a chemical manufacturing/laboratory required.

· Expertise with equipment, tests, procedures and methods in a lab environment.

· Knowledge of SPC/SQC techniques

· Ability for problem solving, troubleshooting, project management, and report generation.

· Must possess a safety mindset.

· Understanding of the manufacturing processes supported by the group or specialized area of assignment.

· Knowledge of techniques required for preparing standardized solutions, and other solutions/samples for analyses.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.

This position is a non-exempt hourly position. Overtime may be required.
