Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are seeking a Manufacturing Representative to join our Geismar, LA, team. The Chemical Monomers group offers a comprehensive portfolio of organic and inorganic basis materials and innovative specialties. With our monomers and basic polymers we create durable links - for the success of our customers worldwide.

Manufacturing Representative (1700962) – Geismar, LA

You will report to the Production Director and ensure the technical and functional aspects of the MDI 1 Replacement Project are aligned with the latest MDI Technology and meet the intent of the project from an EHS perspective. You will work closely with the NCE group in Geismar and Houston as well as the Global CMT team to ensure that the MDI 1 Replacement project is started up on budget and on schedule meeting the Project Objectives established by the CM Business Unit.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Review and approve P & I D’s, plot plans, process and engineering changes, and equipment specification sheets after consultation with BASF-AG experts. In some cases, the incumbent will give final approval on some of these items.
- Manage the technical coordination, technical liaison and transmittal of all technical process and plant information form CMT Antwerp.
- Provide information to process and project engineering groups on manufacturing and operational requirements.
- Monitor and check the engineering design and procurement of equipment to ensure they satisfy operational standards and requirements for the plant site.
- Perform field inspections of construction site and reviews all model revisions and changes to ensure operational aspects of engineering design. Identifies safety hazards or potential hazards and consequences of upset conditions.
- In conjunction with Corporate Engineering, ensure all required environmental permits are obtained on a timely basis and cover all conditions of plant operation.
- Participate in the refinement of operating procedures covering but not limiting to safety interlocking, plant shutdown and start-up, etc.
- Develop the start-up plan and operating instructions.

o Develop training programs and aids for supervisor and operators.

o Define start-up team staffing requirements.

o Assist in the selection of personnel and the training process.

o Write, or assign the writing of, operating manuals.
- Assist in the development of cost data and the implementation of cost and budget control programs for post start-up
- Ensure scope changes or modification are captured and documented as a part of the PSM “Management of Change”.
- Support the Manufacturing Rep team in the development and completion of the Process Hazard Analysis review for the Capital Project
- Assist in the coordination, planning, and execution of shutdown work including maintenance and capital activities.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- BS Degree in Engineering, preferably Chemical Engineering or Chemistry and minimum 10+ years of experience in a chemical/petrochemical or other similar manufacturing environment required.
- Experience on large capital (< $100M) brown field / green field type projects are required
- Experience in detail design, process safety, and Project Management practices/procedures
- Alignment of tie-in locations with turnaround strategies and construction execution
- Understanding of hydrotest package development for large capital projects
- Communication skills in relaying scope, cost, schedule, and functionality objectives to Operations and Day Staff
- Strong collaboration skills needed to work through design details in multicultural environments
- Demonstrated leadership and conflict management skills to work through the EHS and design challenges related to integrating new MDI 1 plant concept into remaining MD1 assets

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
