The Chemical Intermediates Group has an opportunity for a Production Engineer in the Diols department at the BASF Geismar, LA location.

The Chemical Intermediates group offers a comprehensive portfolio of chemical processes and innovative specialties. With our finished products and chemical intermediates, we contribute to the success of our customers worldwide, both external and internal to BASF.

Production Engineer (1801745) – Geismar, LA

You will support the daily operation of the MDI plants, providing technical assistance in executing the required production plan. You will be instrumental in leading troubleshooting efforts when problems arise as a solution provider. This position requires strong leadership in safe plant operation and adherence to BASF Process Safety rules and policies.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Take ownership of several units within the complex driving safety, production, and continuous improvement.
- Mentor and train employees where appropriate.
- Provide guidance and input to the achievement and development of plant goals, objectives, and operational budgets
- Generate and complete MOCs and revalidate temporary MOCs to confirm their validity.
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to the Daily Operational Team for plant problems that occur.
- Offer technical and leadership support in root cause failure analysis for production, EHS, and Quality Incidents.
- Participate in production planning and scheduling.
- Be on-call and respond to any after-hour event that impacts production or EHS.
- Interface with suppliers, customers, and vendors as needed to maintain plant operation.
- Work with Maintenance, Asset Management, Technology, Engineering, and other BASF MDI plants around the world to drive results.
- Support plant outages.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline required, preferably in Chemical Engineering, combined with a minimum of 10 years of experience in a chemical/petrochemical manufacturing environment and 5 years in Operations.
- Desire to work in a challenging plant with the drive for continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with process equipment operation including pumps, heat exchangers, and vessels.
- Understanding of chemical engineering principles and their application in a plant environment.
- Proven troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Ability to adapt to regular changes in priorities as required in a production environment.
- Good communication and computer skills.
- Self-starter with high level of results orientation and good teamwork skills.
- Experience in MDI or Process Engineering background is preferable.
