Where the Chemistry Happens…

This position is responsible for the day-to-day operation of Geismar utilities. The Production Specialist demonstrates leadership in safe plant operation, adherence to BASF process safety rules and policies, and provides technical assistance to execute the production plan. This position requires effective communication with a diverse group of job functions (e.g., EHS, operations, maintenance, asset management) across the Geismar site.

Utilities Production Specialist (1801508) – Geismar, LA

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Support and role model EHS activities and processes.
- Ensure compliance with LDAR and Title V permits.
- Develop, implement, and maintain administrative processes to comply with EHS regulations.
- Coordinate, execute, and document PSSR/MOC reviews.
- Provide technical support in root cause failure analysis and EHS incident investigations.
- Production Execution
- Monitor and provide direction to accomplish plant goals, objectives, and operational budgets.
- Drive accountability and consistency across shifts regarding procedures, standards, and conflicts.
- Maintain staffing flexibility through operational cross-functional training.
- Generate and complete MOCs; revalidate temporary MOCs to confirm validity.
- Interface with suppliers, customers, and vendors as needed to maintain unit operations.
- Participate in outage planning and scheduling.
- Align utility outages with the Geismar Site to minimize impact to the Verbund.
- Identify Lean opportunities and support implementation.
- Define strategic and non-routine activities and support scheduling of shift work.
- Ensure proper documentation of operating files, records, and operation drawings.
- Provide technical support to operations, maintenance, and asset management.
- Support root cause failure analysis for production and quality incidents.
- Administer troubleshooting assistance and knowledge transfer to the Production Execution team.
- Provide technical and leadership support to the Technology team to implement plant trials and optimization.
- Maintenance Support
- Coordinate equipment repair priorities with Maintenance Gatekeeper.
- Ensure equipment prepped for maintenance when scheduled.
- Function as liaison with service groups and outside contractors to ensure work related to the production facilities is accomplished correctly, promptly, and cost-effectively.
- Administrative
- Review and validate production data and reports.
- Interface with scheduling of shipments (e.g., products, co-products, waste).
- Work with the Production Supervisor to establish Shift Supervisor goals and manage Shift performance.
- Asset Management
- Participate in the optimization of scheduled and unscheduled downtime.
- Coordinate the scheduling/execution of inspections work and outages with Asset Management.
- Promote Autonomous Maintenance and appropriate level of training.
- Assign causes and amount of lost production for Asset Effectiveness Tool.
- Assist Maintenance Gatekeeper in the coordination, planning, and execution of shutdown or turnaround work, including maintenance and capital activities.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with at least 5 years of experience; OR Associate’s degree with at least 7 years of experience; OR High School diploma/equivalent with at least 10 years of experience in Chemical Plant operations.
- Basic to intermediate understanding of equipment and chemical unit operations.
- Knowledge of OSHA, EP, DEQ, and other applicable codes, regulations, and standards.
- Practical experience in plant troubleshooting.
- Experience in leading teams.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (e.g., Excel, Word, PowerPoint, OneNote) and experience using SAP.
