We are seeking a Global Oilfield Technology Manager to function out of our Houston, TX facility.

Global Oilfield Technology Manager (1705196) – Houston, TX

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Development of Technical Expertise
- Be responsible for Technical Service in the Western Hemisphere, including standardization of technical service procedures in Oilfield Solutions laboratories worldwide, and organizational oversight of all innovation (R&D) projects managed within the North America region.
- Identify technology gaps and suggest cross-Business Unit (BU)/academia collaborations or potential merger and acquisition (M&A) opportunities.
- Develop processes to continuously and actively screen the entire BASF portfolio to identify potential products for Oilfield industry applications.
- Scout for ideas, both internally and externally, for new chemistries and applications in market areas identified for growth or for new business development in the business strategy
- Increase visibility of BASF technical expertise in the Oilfield Chemicals industry, including preparation and presentation of technical information at conferences, and writing articles or papers for publication in industry-specific literature (magazines, journals).
- Manage projects to develop test methods and application-specific technical know-how for Oilfield Chemicals.
- Technical Business Support
- Provide technical leadership to technical and sales personnel within the business unit, as well as functional oversight for the technical service laboratories in the Western Hemisphere.
- Develop global technical service project budget (aligned with global senior management); accountable for meeting budget targets.
- Assist in the selection of new research and development (R&D) projects for BASF to fund to positively impact both short- and long-term sales growth in industry.
- Collaborate with Global Product Development to evaluate whether existing R&D projects should continue to be supported based on project results thus far and market developments and industry trends since project inception.
- Ensure strategic alignment of all technical activities globally and communicate progress of same to global senior management.
- Act as a global technical interface between Oilfield Solutions and product or service suppliers (e.g., other BASF business divisions, third parties, tollers) since this business unit is the “face” to the industry for BASF.
- Act as a product champion for new technologies to evaluate the impact on the market value of BASF’s offering and communicate to relevant Segment Manager
- Work with Global Product Development to coordinate Intellectual Property (IP) and Confidentiality contracts, and monitor competitors’ technical activities by conducting periodic IP reviews
- Provide technical support for product launches.
- Be involved in Marketing issues as required (i.e., market literature, commercialization efforts, trade shows).
- Customer Support
- Oversee application testing and development of formulations as needed to support product service, sales, or customers.
- Make periodic customer visits (either solo or jointly with a sales representative or other BASF technical experts) to educate customers on the BASF product and technology portfolio, investigate opportunities to promote/initiate R&D projects with customers, coordinate ongoing R&D projects with customers, identify opportunities where BASF chemistry and/or technology could meet current or future customer needs, and assist or conduct customer trials on new and existing applications.
- Coordinate response to technical questions regarding all commercialized products and technologies with a special focus on those newly launched.
- Collaborate with the global sales team to meet customer needs, resolve issues, and grow the business to meet sales targets.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Ph.D. in Chemistry, Petroleum Engineering, or a related technical field.
- A minimum of 15 years in Chemical industry experience required; candidates possessing at least 5 years of Technical Management experience in the Oilfield industry are strongly preferred.
- Experience managing budgeting and spending.
- Strong networking skills with ties to industry associations (e.g., SPE, NACE, API).
- Patents, publications, or consulting experience in the Oilfield industry is considered a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal, networking, problem-solving, leadership, communication, and presentation skills are required.
