Job Description - Intralogistics Engineer –Houston, TX

This position is part of an expert group that provides support for BASF Corporation sites in North America. It includes leading regionally and participating globally in the application of machinery expertise for filling & packaging machinery and packaged goods handling units.

This role will be responsible for layout, design and implementation of new machines in investment projects, as well as assessing existing installations to increase performance, plant optimization, and reliability.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Define functionality and scope for complex equipment, machinery and units (layout / design / arrangement) for filling, dosing, packaging, conveying and storing.
- Develop data sheets / specifications for complex equipment, machinery and units and perform technical bid evaluations for the specified items.
- Monitor contractor’s work for specification, compliance, safety and quality requirements, timeliness and cost effectiveness.
- Review vendor drawings and calculations of complex equipment, machinery and units for industry code plus BASF technical and safety standards compliance.
- Coordinate interdisciplinary activities / information with discipline counterparts (Instrument, Civil, Electrical and Piping).
- Consult with operations, engineering and vendors throughout design, construction and startup.
- Represent North America in the BASF Global Working Group for Intralogistics.

Nature and Scope:
- This position works directly with Production, Engineering & Maintenance within BASF North America to design filling, packaging and handling units. The candidate is expected to provide expert-level support to design and implement this type of equipment, and furthermore to increase existing equipment’s reliability.
- This position interacts with BASF Project Teams, BASF Plant Production Personnel and with the Engineering Partner’s Leads and Internal Experts to ensure the project needs are being fulfilled and the objectives are met.
- This position works directly with Plant Production Personnel to assess existing installations and to define project scopes.
- The candidate will not have any direct supervision responsibilities. However, she/he will be tasked to provide expert technical support to the Engineering and Maintenance user community, have assigned regional/global responsibilities, and oversee/review the work executed by contractors related to specific projects/ assignments. The candidate will also provide expert support and development for North American region.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred or other Engineering discipline and at least 10 years of experience in the chemical or intralogistics industry.
- At least 5 years of experience in the maintenance, operation or design of machinery in chemical or intralogistics industry.
- In depth knowledge of relevant machinery and / or equipment design codes and standards.
- Familiarity with engineering execution, purchasing, accounting and construction practices.
- Experience as lead engineer and / or subject matter expert on large and / or complex projects.
- Cross disciplinary knowledge of civil, piping, mechanical, and electrical.
- Strong, analytical thinking, entrepreneurial acting, influencing, coaching, leadership, and communication skills.
- Strong market knowledge in relevant industry sectors
- This position will require 30 % travel to our North America sites.
- Knowledge and experience with process machinery, in addition intralogistics, is a plus.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U. S. Department of Homeland Security.
