Where the Chemistry Happens…

The Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Process Safety Specialist will be responsible for supporting multiple sites within the Southwest hub in effective, safe, and environmentally acceptable operations. The position will also provide technical support and guidance to help develop and drive sustainable systems for Process Safety, PSM/RMP, Occupational Safety & Industrial Hygiene (OSIH), and compliance activities as needed through a shared HUB services concept.

Senior EHS Specialist (1801657) – Houston, TX

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Support multiple sites in the interpretation, development, and implementation of EHS initiatives while maintaining ongoing compliance with existing EHS safety standards and programs.
- Foster a safe-behavior mindset throughout all functions in a manufacturing environment.
- Serve as a technical resource on PSM, RMP, and BASF Process Safety issues.
- Develop effective working relationships with site management, employees, and the EHS community to drive continuous improvement in safety/industrial hygiene performance.
- Drive effective risk reviews through use of Management of Change and the Capital Project Review process.
- Participate in Process Hazards Analysis activities and in technical reviews of process changes as necessary.
- Understand and apply EHS and Engineering industry standards from OSHA and NFPA at the site level.
- Audit compliance with Industry and BASF process safety requirements at multiple sites through the Southwest Hub.
- Investigate accident/incidents and develop effective corrective actions.
- Utilize EHS electronic systems (e.g., Accident Incident Database, Management of Change (MOC) Database, Action Item Database, PHA database).
- Assist in development and delivery of EHS training programs both for new employees and for changes made to existing EHS requirements.
- Support KPI tracking, maintain EHS records/databases, and prepare internal and external reports.
- Actively participate with the PSM/RMP/OSIH professional community.
- Experience in confined space entry, hot work, lock-tag-try, and line breaking considered a plus.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Undergraduate degree in one of the following preferred disciplines Engineering, Chemistry, Safety Engineering, Environmental Engineering or Science
- Progressive practitioner or consultative experience in an EHS, Process Engineer, Operations or Safety field; preferably within Petrochemical, Refining, or related manufacturing industries
- Professional safety certification (CSP, ASP) highly desirable
- Experience in MOCs, incident investigations, and root cause analysis; PSM/RMP Program development and Implementation is preferred
- Knowledge of and experience with occupational safety and industrial hygiene practices, procedures, and regulations
- Demonstrated ability to drive change, develop, implement and manage strategic and sustainable safety programs
- Ability to influence others in a dynamic manufacturing and laboratory setting
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with employees and contractors within all levels of the organization
- Strong team working ability
- Ability to manage and lead multiple projects at one time
- Strong self-drive and time management skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Ability to travel up to 20%
