The Corporate Engineering Services Department executes large capital investment projects, major expansions, debottlenecking of existing plants, and Long Term Depreciated Turnarounds (LTDT) throughout North America. The successful candidate for this position must be a results-oriented leader who can build strong working relationships and function effectively at all levels of the organization. S/he she must be able to think strategically to identify and implement process improvements, mitigate risks, solve problems, and increase value. This position is responsible for executing Value-based Engineering, Risk Management, and Quality Management processes for multiple capital project investments of various size and complexity (typically 15 MEUR-300+MEUR). S/he will champion the BASF Capital Project Value-Based Engineering, Risk Management, and Quality Management processes, and ensure the effective development and execution of BASF’s Global processes.

Value-Based Engineering Manager (1702480) – Houston, TX

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Organize and lead all aspects of the Value-Based Engineering process for large capital projects per BASF procedures and guidelines. Organize and facilitate Constructability 1, 2, and 3 Reviews for large capital projects.
- Direct the project Risk Management process per BASF guidelines and procedures as a risk facilitator or risk manager.
- Serve as process owner and drive continual improvement projects (methods, tools, documentation, and improvement support) for Value-Based Engineering, Risk Management, and Quality Management for large capital projects.

Key Performance Indicators and Project Reporting
- Organize and perform project quality audits and lessons learned coordination per BASF guidelines and procedures
- Set-up, organize, and facilitate Technical Reviews for the applicable project gates per BASF’s procedures to ensure that project issues are properly addressed, and that sufficient planning exists for any open issues.
- Meet the goals of the Global Risk Management Work Group, the Global Value-Based Engineering Work Group, the Global Large Capital Project Reporting Work Group, and the Global Quality Management Work Group.
- Support the goals of the regional Project Management Technical Rules Committee and the North American Technical Network for Project Management.
- Ensure transparency and availability of processes, rules, procedures, and guidelines for Project Management, Quality Management, and Risk Management.
- Interface and collaborate with engineering, business units, global teams, and senior leadership to provide technical support and recommendations for continual project management performance improvements.
- Support site engineering and other North American Project Management Offices.
- Mentor and coach less-experienced engineers, including participants in the Professional Development Program.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering with a minimum of 12 years of experience in project management, project engineering, construction management, or risk management for large capital projects.
- Experience with execution of large capital projects (>$15 million).
- In-depth technical knowledge of overall project management and work processes for all phases of a project including FEL, detailed engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning. Turnaround experience a plus.
- Strong business acumen and ability to understand business value drivers and effectively drive changes, which provide value improvement opportunities to large capital projects.
- Demonstrated self-starter with excellent communication, organization, coordination, conflict management, and leadership skills.
- Capable of working in a diverse team environment and with multiple teams.
- Ability to travel 20% to 30% of the time on average, with 50% travel on occassion.

- Preferred industry experience includes petrochemical, oil & gas, or similar heavy industrial fields.
- Professional Certifications such as a PMP, PMI-RMP®
- Experience with joint ventures a plus.

This position requires all candidates to either currently possess or obtain and maintain a TWIC (Transportation Worker Identification Credential) Card from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
