Where the Chemistry Happens…

At the BASF Huntsville Site, we make the chemistry and technology used in vehicle catalytic convertors and other environmental products. As part of our team, employees help us conceive, design, implement and validate new equipment, technologies and processes to help make our world's environment cleaner. Our Machine Operator IIIs contribute by operating variety of specialized machines throughout the Foil Area of the Site.

Principal Responsibilities

•Assures machine is set to required specifications, according to the Auto-Cad Drawing for the Contract Review.

•Ability to read and interpret Auto-Cad Drawings

•Enters production information into computer for lot packages, downtime sheets.

•Following work instructions, and specification sheets, sets and controls machines to regulate speed of coating, flow of chemical slurries, and temperature of drying ovens to maintain specified customer quality requirements.

•Utilizing work instructions and guides, troubleshoots machines and makes appropriate adjustments to assure proper operation.

•Cleans and maintains machines and associated areas.

•Properly completes administrative paperwork associated with machine operations such as Process Lot Tickets, standard process control charts and other operations forms.

•By controlling machine operation, contributes to maintaining scrap at less than company goal.

•Provides machine operator on-the-job training to include but not limited to: paper work, machine operation & set up, associated equipment and processes.

Work environment/Physical demands

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.

• The employee is occasionally exposed to airborne particles and vibration.

• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

• Coater Operators perform tasks on various coating machines.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers, handle and feel as well as to reach with hands and arms.

• The employee is frequently required to stand and sit as well as frequently required to walk.

• The Coater Operator must frequently move parts weighing five pounds, lift and/or move up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 45 pounds.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

• The use of personal protection equipment is required including, safety glasses, safety shoes and gloves.

• May be required to work mandatory overtime and/or twelve hour shifts.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Basic Qualifications:

•High School Diploma/GED

•2 years of manufacturing/industrial experience

Preferred Qualifications:

•Demonstrated enhanced math and/or science ability.

•Ability to operate machines of medium complexity, often including use of intermediate computer skills.

Ability to demonstrate enhanced trouble shooting skills within their assigned process.

•Ability to handle multi-task assignments.

•Ability to work with minimal supervision and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations while performing tasks which may require multiple steps
