Description
At the BASF Huntsville Plant, we make the chemistry and technology used in vehicle catalytic convertors and other environmental products. As part of our team, employees help us conceive, design, implement and validate new equipment, technologies and processes to help make our world's environment cleaner. Our Quality Control Department plays a vital role in the success of our plant. This position contributes by performing visual and physical testing requirements of raw materials, in process, and final products. This position also holds specific knowledge of specifications, procedures, and drawings to assure product meets all internal and customer requirements.

Principal Responsibilities

• Conduct visual, destructive, and nondestructive testing.

• Inspect and/or measure quality parameters via approved measurement techniques including CMM, calipers, pressure drop, etc.

• Interpret drawings, procedures, and specifications.

• Pull representative samples based on established and approved sampling plans.

• Perform in process and rework inspections including visual and physical testing.

• Create and maintain files for inspection reports, nonconforming materials reports.

• Control of nonconforming material.

• Serve as a contact for internal auditing process and help develop corrective actions related to team quality systems.

• Write, read and understand technical documentation including policies, procedures, specifications and drawings.

• Understanding of work instructions.

• Coordinated work activities through use of processing and shipping forecast.

• Record and plot data.

• Alert to and follow all safety rules and procedures.

This is a night shift position

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Basic Qualifications:

• HS diploma with 1 year of lab and/or quality control experience, associate’s degree in a related discipline or 2 years technical degree in a related discipline with no lab and/or quality control experience or bachelor’s degree in a related discipline with no lab and/or quality control experience

• Enhanced math and/or science ability with 2 or more years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Must be able to operate machines of medium complexity, often including use of intermediate computer skills

• Must demonstrate enhanced trouble shooting skills within their assigned process.

• Must demonstrate the ability to handle multi-task assignments

• Must be able to work with minimal supervision and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations while performing tasks which may require multiple steps

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration.

• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; as well as talk and hear.

• The employee is regularly required to document test results via hand written and keyboard entries.

• The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Any part that weights more than 25 pounds needs to be lifted by a manipulator or the buddy system.

• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

• May be required to work mandatory overtime and/or 12 hour shifts.

• The use of personal protection equipment is required such as hearing protection, safety glasses and protective gloves
