Description
We make the chemistry and technology used in vehicle catalytic convertors and other environmentally smart products. Our may be responsible for any of the following:

Controls equipment units or systems that process, by batch, large quantities of raw materials, to include high priced precious metals, into catalytic slurries utilizing a large number of diverse technologies. Each batch is processed according to work instructions, knowledge of operating procedures, chemical reactions, laboratory test results, and correlation of process instrumentation. Also will be responsible for training new operators to current standards to include WI’s/VA’s and SOP’s. Will assist supervisor in the completion of training matrix. Also to be responsible for initial training on new equipment and processes to include the development of WI’S,VA’s and SOP’s and the continued training of current chemical operators when these are released as part of the standard production process.

Following work instructions, procedures and product specifications; adds specified amounts of raw materials into vessels or blending tanks; sets valves to feed liquid and solid materials through equipment units, sets controls in specified sequence on control panel to start automatic feed.

Weighs out quantities of powdered or liquid chemicals and precious metals, following formula sheets.

Starts and monitors feed of solid or semi-solid materials through equipment units, such as mills, heating vessels and mixing tanks; dumps pre-weighed ingredients into tanks, hoppers, or ball/continuous mills.

Adjusts controls and valves to maintain system at specified temperature, pressure, and vacuum levels.

Observes chemical reactions; monitors gauges, samples and data recorders; and receives notification from analytical laboratory, supervisor, or other workers to make specified operating adjustments.

Observes gauges, and instruments, turns valves, and moves controls to regulate temperatures, pressures, and flow of steam, coolant, and chemical constituents through system to effect prescribed reaction within critical limits, according to knowledge of equipment and process specifications.

Draws samples of product at specified stages of synthesis and performs standard tests to determine if manufacturing is proceeding efficiently and in conformity with specifications.

Attaches hoses, pumps or transfer equipment to move completed slurry to holding area or manufacturing coating equipment.

Controls precious metal cost by following all work instructions; accurately calculating formulations or weighing to

pre-calculated formulas and focusing on each detail of task as it is being performed.

Backfill the Material prep PA position within limited responsibilities

Reviews master production schedule and work orders.

Revises production assignments according to work specifications, established priorities, and availability or capability of workers, parts, material, machines, and equipment.

Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, or work crew.

Responsible for updating multiple databases to ensure proper completion and prioritization of processes

Helps ensure all Corporation, Site, and Departmental Safety Goals and Practices are practiced and followed.

Participate in continuous improvement, Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), corrective and/or preventative activities.

Troubleshoot process problems.

Assist the engineering group in new product launches into main stream production (P-PAP / Raw material changes). Follow product stream and compile production issues and help to develop and communicate solutions.

Maintain a clean work environment

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

High School Diploma/GED

Must have at least three years of experience as a Chemical Operator

Basic to advanced math skills

Specialized Training , Milling class, Chemical Safety class, Process Chemistry class

Member of the Hazwoper team / Emergency Response team

Must be capable of using Fork lift and department specific specialized equipment

Must demonstrate enhanced trouble shooting skills

Requires successful completion of a Lean Principles course

Capable of updating and helping to maintain data bases

Must demonstrate ability to be self-directed working with minimal supervision.

Must demonstrate the ability to identify and initiate work projects and/or tasks working on multiple tasks

Ability to operate complex machines and often including use of intermediate to advanced computer skills.

Requires the ability to lead or influence others.

Requires ability to use respirator and/or forced air supply equipment.
