Where the Chemistry Happens…

The Competitive Intelligence & IP Analyst is a key team member of the CC/S team in support of the Global Catalysts Division (CC). The incumbent is accountable for market and competitive analysis and is a key contributing member to the team responsible for the development of the SBU strategies, and in making recommendations to the President and Strategic Business Unit (SBU) heads. This position works with appropriate SBU Strategy Directors and business unit management including senior level executives (President/GVP/VP) across the globe. S/he will be responsible for contracting and coordinating with third-party consultants/data sources in support of ongoing strategy development and strategic monitoring. The analyst is responsible for developing a process to collect both primary and secondary market intelligence and translate that into strategic trends and implications.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Conduct primary/secondary research and continuous monitoring related to markets, customers, intellectual property trends, competitive landscape, business environment, and analyst views
- Determine market trends and relative performance of key competitors. Deduce the strategy competitors are pursuing including, but not limited to, R&D focus, asset and product mix shifts, operational improvements, investment and M&A strategy, and regional expansion strategy.
- Develop and generate competitive benchmarking and landscape reports, IP benchmarking and landscape analysis, and deep-dive analysis on market trends, drivers, and potential sources of market and technology disruption.
- Provide data, analysis, and recommendations to leadership to increase the overall transparency of the market and competitive landscape, and to facilitate informed decisions.
- Transform competitive intelligence, IP, and market analysis into actionable knowledge for business leaders including implications for business, possible risks, and potential gains.
- Partner with the global business stakeholders to identify and understand key trends (short- to longer-term) and tie them to strategies and marketing initiatives.
- Synthesize information across different functions and regions to ensure a deeper understanding of the business environment. Report and make appropriate recommendations to senior leadership.
- Partner with appropriate BASF central functions including controlling, asset management, and business management to coordinate information-sharing across business units and globally.
- Provide market perspective to Strategy team, M&A, and New Business Development teams
- Contract and steer work scope with outside vendors, including consultants and business service providers, for market research.
- Display understanding of technology and intellectual property.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical science or engineering discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Physics) or business (e.g., Marketing, Finance) field is required;
- Master’s Degree or higher in Engineering or science discipline or MBA is preferable.
- Ability to generate analysis, reports, and actionable recommendations and clearly communicate conclusions to leadership and other stakeholders is required
- Financial analyst background preferred
- Experience Market research including both primary and secondary research, analysis, and reporting preferred.
- Knowledge of Intellectual property (IP) and IP analysis is preferred.
- A combination of technical experience and business experience preferred.
- Financial and econometric modeling experience and having created models is preferred.
- Candidates having the ability to manage external analytical tools, primary research services, and consultants is a plus. Experience with Bloomberg, Capital IQ, Innography, and Questel or similar market/corporate and IP analytical tools preferred.
