Where the Chemistry Happens…

The position will be in RCC/PZ and will be focused on Zeolites research. The specific focus of the team is on the development of zeolite-based catalysts for environmental applications, with specific emphasis on diesel emission applications. The key application is selective catalytic reduction (SCR) of nitrogen oxides (NOx) in diesel vehicles. This involves synthesis, modification, and fundamentals of zeolitic materials, and the preparation of novel catalysts using these zeolites. The team works closely with groups in RCC/E in the development of new catalysts. There is also strong collaboration with catalyst scale-up teams for the transfer of technology from research scale to commercial scales.

Research Chemist - Zeolites (1801251) – Iselin, NJ

The successful candidate can conduct research, with some degree of independence, in applied materials research aimed at the development of novel catalytic materials. Extensive knowledge of current state-of-the-art in zeolite chemistry is critical, and will be applied in developing targeted research projects. The candidate is expected to have strong communications skills, both written and oral, for impactful presentation of research results and new project proposals. S/he must show strong interpersonal skills, which are critical for collaboration with other fellow researchers, as well as supervision of lab technicians.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Perform project planning and target setting, in close collaboration with supervisor and other team members.
- Plan and execute experiments involving zeolite synthesis, involving extensive experimentation, and revision of experimental plan based on on-going findings.
- Supervise laboratory technician(s) to coordinate experimental responsibilities. Provide appropriate coaching and development of the technician(s).
- Collaborate with team members and other groups for evaluation and characterization of experimental samples, as well as idea generation.
- Keep abreast of the relevant publications in the open literature, as well as patent applications.
- Submit invention records based on new experimental findings, and work with Legal on the preparation of patent applications.
- Generate new ideas and prepare proposals for Creativity projects.
- Present research findings and new proposals to R&D management and business group representatives.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

- Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering; postdoctoral research experience preferred.
- Research experience with inorganic chemistry, with specific focus on synthesis, chemistry, and fundamentals of zeolites and related microporous materials.
- Demonstrated ability to apply innovative approaches to develop new materials with desired attributes.

Job Requirements
- Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering. Postdoctoral research experience preferred.
