Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are seeking a Production Supervisor for the Care Chemicals plant in Kankakee, IL to manage the safe and efficient day-to-day operations through active engagement of employees. This is a 12-hour rotating shift position that will lead a team of approximately eight chemical operators to maintain operations on a 24/7 basis. In addition to leading the operations team, the Production Supervisor will also serve as an Incident Commander, who leads the Emergency Response Team during significant incidents at the BASF Kankakee facility.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Execute daily operating plans under the supervision of the Production Execution Manager for all Care Chemicals production & utilities areas.
- Direct operations personnel in observance of safe work practices, quality regulatory requirements, labor relations, and good housekeeping. Take immediate steps to correct any unsafe working conditions.
- Coordinate equipment and process adjustments based on previous shift activities, review of operator and supervisor logs, physical survey, and laboratory test results.
- Participate in maintenance activity by entering work notifications, giving feedback on maintenance schedule priorities, leading equipment preparations via lockout/tagout procedures, and issuing safe work permits as needed for hot work and confined space entry.
- Collaborate with engineers to troubleshoot and implement process improvements via the site Management of Change (MOC) policy.
- Provide coaching for shift operators, supervise necessary training qualifications for new operators, and assist in problem resolution.
- Participate in safety incident investigations by providing initial reports and attending root cause analysis meetings where corrective actions are assigned to prevent reoccurrence.
- Ensure compliance with quality regulations through enforcement of procedures and management of non-conforming material.
- Manage time and attendance program for operators to track hours worked, overtime, holidays, and absences. Ensure adequate staffing levels for upcoming shifts through scheduling of vacation and overtime as appropriate.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- High school diploma or equivalent required; higher education preferred.
- A minimum of 3 years in a manufacturing environment. Process knowledge and/or technical experience is helpful, but not required.
- Leadership experience preferred, and supervisory experience is a plus.
- Previous experience in PSM and/or cGMP environment preferred.
- Commitment to EHS and demonstration of personal accountability, resulting in a “Zero Incident Mindset” and “Zero Loss of Containment Mindset”.
- Strong interpersonal skills to establish effective relationships quickly.
- Experience in working as part of a team with a strong technical aptitude.
- Possess solid communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Display initiative and a have a strong drive for results. Skillful in leading change.
- Proficiency in a variety of computer applications including e-mail, inventory, production reporting, maintenance systems, and plant controls systems (e.g. Microsoft Office, SAP, DCS).
