Where the Chemistry Happens…

The Seed Processing Plant Manager is accountable to the Site Manager; Canola Seed Processing Facility, the purpose of this position is to provide leadership, management and operation skills to the raw canola receiving, canola seed cleaning, clean seed storage and bulk seed shipping processes in Lethbridge, ensuring the reliability and application of both human and machine resources. Focus on employee safety, canola seed quality, employee development, seed cleaning planning, seed storage and transfer planning and employee onboarding for the seasonal operations to support NA Seeds business plans.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Incorporate and support a yearly seed cleaning plan which meets the needs of the market through a coordinated effort involving Seed Processing, Logistics Planners – Seed Cleaning & Seed Treating, Seed Production, Sales and Marketing, Distribution Coordinators, Warehouse Coordinators and Transportation stakeholders
- Develop a seed cleaning production plan for the facility and manage processing activities that allow the achievement of objectives relative to quality, volumes and deadlines as outlined for the facility within the NA Business Plan. Ensure that a production workforce is in place to operate the processing equipment within the required timelines
- Assist in developing and managing the operating budgets for the Lethbridge Canola Seed Processing Facility. Utilize SAP and FOX software systems to plan and track OPEX performance to plan for functional areas of responsibility
- Assist with development of capital asset investment priorities for the Lethbridge Canola Seed Processing Facility and provide input to process designs and upgrades. Provide project management assistance and Contractor liaison at the request of the Site Manager
- Assist with implementing the reliability/maintenance program for the processing equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operations that meet required standards and allow production goals to be met
Initiate the development, monitoring and continuous improvement of seed processing protocols and processes to ensure production can be met in time and cost efficient manner while adhering to BioTrace
- Excellence through Stewardship and Total Quality Management requirements. Manage all TQM activities related to seed flow and Critical Control Points in cleaning and storage. Ensure data is accurately recorded and available to respective parties
- Ensure compliance to the facility’s Health, Safety and Environment programs consistent with BCS and legislative regulatory requirements
- Ensure compliance with all BCS corporate Legal programs consistent with company and legislative requirements
- Provide leadership and manage employment relations through workforce planning, performance management, discipline, coaching & feedback, employee development, payroll (TMW), recruitment and interview selection and other related human resource initiatives with the goal to develop and maintain high performance teams
- Ensure processing employees support warehouse and inventory movement through the use of WM and SAP tools to maintain accurate seed related raw materials/finished goods inventory at the Facility
- Provide backup to the Site Manager during absences

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Diploma or degree in Technology or Engineering (or equivalent)
- Valid WHMIS and TDG Certificates
- Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in a processing plant environment. Experience in seed processing operations is an asset
- Incumbent should have a good working knowledge and experience with processing equipment and consequently computer assisted operating and software systems used in manufacturing environments such as Wonderware or Siemens HMI control systems. Knowledge of PLC platforms is considered an asset
- Demonstrated ability and skills in place to provide leadership, coaching and feedback to direct reports and plant operating personnel
- Able to focus on employee development and performance management of processing employees
- Experience with Integrated Management Systems for example Six Sigma, TQM, ISO 9000
- Basic knowledge in applying IMS to production processes
- Ability to partner with internal stakeholders and external resources to achieve results
- Ability to occasionally work different shift schedules including some weekends and overtime hours
