Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are seeking an EHS (Environmental, Health and Safety) Specialist to become a member of our Central Hub EHS team. Located in Louisville, KY, you will report to the Central Hub Team Leader (located in Cleveland, OH) with a dotted line to the Louisville site manager. You must have strong expertise in occupational safety, and a working knowledge of process safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental technology and regulations. Knowledge of emergency planning and response is also important for the role.

Under the hub structure, you will have indirect interaction with other sites in the Central Hub, a group of sites supported under the BASF shared services platform. You will also interact with EHS experts and professionals who support BASF North American sites and businesses. In this shared services structure, you may also assist at other BASF sites as needs arise.

The Louisville site is a critical part of BASF’s Dispersions & Resins and Catalyst businesses in North America. The site employs approximately 80 people, including members of the United Chemical Workers’ union, to produce specialty pigmented dispersions for the Architectural Coatings industry and specialty catalysts for the automotive industry. The large variety of processes and products provides a challenging and highly engaging work environment.

Senior EHS Specialist (1701802) – Louisville, KY

You will develop and execute strategic and tactical EHS plans to increase risk recognition and reduce injuries/incidents, improve employee health, maintain environmental compliance, ensure safe design of plants, and prepare for emergencies.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Lead Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs (including industrial hygiene and process safety) at the Louisville site.
- Advise site management of compliance concerns.
- Provide strategic direction on EHS matters to site leadership teams.
- Coordinate and conduct exposure monitoring in accordance with the Industrial Hygiene Monitoring Plan, including recordkeeping, results interpretation, recommendation for controls and communication.
- Complete all internal and external EHS reporting.
- Participate in project reviews to identify EHS issues/opportunities.
- Facilitate the sharing of programs, procedures, tools, and successfully demonstrated practices with other EHS professionals.
- Support the interface with regulatory agencies and third parties, as needed, on compliance and enforcement issues.
- Conduct periodic EHS inspections/audits of the facility to ensure compliance with requirements and adherence with EHS programs/standards.
- Create and schedule digital signage content as well as maintain and implement editorial criteria to support the rollout of corporate digital signage across the region.
- Work closely with other members of the regional and global communication team to ensure alignment of messages and plans.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s Degree required, preferably with a concentration in Environmental, Occupational or Industrial Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Engineering, Science, or a science-related discipline.
- A minimum of 5 years of work experience as an EHS professional (may also include Co-ops and internships); chemical manufacturing experience is a plus.
- Knowledge of Environmental, Health & Safety technology and regulations; experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis.
- Emergency planning and response in a manufacturing setting is a plus.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Associate Safety Professional (ASP), or Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), is preferable.
