We are seeking a Process Engineer to join our team. Process Engineer (1700909)

You will provide technical support to the Mauldin Production Department, working in conjunction with production management for the creation of and implementation of process improvements in occupational safety, process safety, plant reliability, and efficiency. You will also provide technical assistance in digital control system troubleshooting, procedure development and operator training.

Formula for Success: You Will…

Process Safety
- Support process safety by investigating process upsets and developing solutions, leading the alarm management team, including the appropriate employees in process safety reviews and activities.
- Ensure that the process safety of our process by monitoring safety trips, reducing nuisance trips and being the owner of the MOC process within your assigned area.
- Support the effective use of the MOC process by leading change evaluation meetings, actively participating in pre-startup safety reviews
- Participate as the process representative in PHAs, Support and aid compliance audits and help ensure BASF standards and regulatory requirements are met or exceeded.
- Responsible for gathering background data for root cause investigation for process incidents and equipment reliability issues and for implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
- Develop and track key metrics as needed for area performance relating to PSM and RMP performance and utilize this data to target the most effective improvement opportunities.
- Support site safety and housekeeping processes. Serve on the emergency response team.

Process Optimization
- Develop and implement, along with production management, an on-going process improvement plan for your assigned area. The plan will detail specific activities that will result in improvements in safety, quality, plant reliability, cost and efficiency. The plan and progress to the plan will be communicated through the appropriate team.
- Conduct process optimization studies to recommend procedural, product recipe or equipment changes needed to improve the process. Also, responsible for daily process and quality troubleshooting and for process assistance needed with the transfer of new products.
- Develop and track key metrics as needed for area performance relating to Asset Effectiveness, Cycle time, Downtime, and utilizing this data to target the most effective improvement opportunities.
- Provide operations support to the project-engineering department (manufacturing representative) for new projects in the form of scope definition, data collection, procedural changes, trials, training and startup assistance.
- Must learn to be familiar with both DCS systems and the safety control systems to ensure the integrity and smooth operation of the DCS system and to be able to use the system to gather necessary data for process improvements and process trials and to train others if necessary.
- Support the New Product Introduction process with timely information gathering, development of procedures, and scheduling of trial batches

Leadership
- Perform certain job duties of the area supervisor when on vacation/business travel (oversee scheduling, area efficiency/troubleshooting issues)
- Manage Cooperative Education Students and/or PDP engineer, as assigned.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- BS Degree required preferably in Chemical Engineering with at least 2 years of chemical experience OR successful completion of the BASF PDP program including at least 2 rotations relevant to this position.
- Broad knowledge of chemical unit operations
- Have/able to develop a good working knowledge of the site reactions and processes
- Must have strong written and verbal communication skills, leadership, analytical/problem solving, and organizational skills.
- Strong initiative, attention to detail, and work management skills required in order to manage multiple projects/process improvements simultaneously, required
- Ability to develop a working knowledge of PSM and RMP requirements, required
- Computer literate with knowledge of SAP desired
- Travel 5%
