Where the Chemistry Happens…

The Construction Manager is directly responsible for Capital Project Contractors that provide construction services on projects at the McIntosh site, and works closely with the Project Manager to ensure a successful project. This position will eliminate delays and obstacles that occur between Operations and the contractor on Capital projects. The role will ensure the contractor complies with construction schedule, project scope, and project costs.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Verify the contractor follows IFC drawings for all construction packages, and act on the owner’s behalf for buy-off on test packages and deviations to technical standards.
- Support Operations in the commissioning/recommissioning of capital projects and the completion of punch-out items and PSSR action items prior to project start-up.
- Ensure oversight of contractors and support craftsmen to maintain cost-effectiveness of project installations.
- Maintain strong compliance with safety, review personal job safety checklists (BEST card), conduct safety contacts, and participate in the Exposure Reduction Process.
- Develop Contractor Environmental Health & Safety Plan (CEHSP) for contractors.
- Track and report contractor man-hours for capital work.
- Review contractor compliance to site entry requirements.
- Provide construction expertise during project constructability reviews.
- Negotiate, authorize, and document field change orders.
- Review and validate contractor invoices.
- Perform inspections of off-site fabrication shops.
- Coordinate third-party inspection services (e.g., x-ray, soils testing).
- Assemble contractor bid packages and facilitate bid process, and participate in contractor vetting.
- Assist project managers with coordinating and scheduling projects with operations.
- Coordinate proper disposal of equipment and construction debris.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Emphasis on safety with respect to contractor compliance to BASF EHS rules, in field coaching, and redirecting contractor on correct safe work practices.
- Knowledge of BASF PSM/RMP and Big 5 EHS processes, Safe Work Permit, Hot Work, LOTO, Confined Specs, and Vehicle Access.
- Construction management experience in an industrial/chemical operations environment.
- Demonstrated communication, influencing, and leadership skills.
- Proven ability in supervising and leadership
- Knowledge of BASF PSM/RMP and Big 5 EHS processes, Safe Work Permit, Hot Work, LOTO, Confined Specs, and Vehicle Access.
- Experience with Capital Project Process and Construction, IFC drawings, Project Scheduling, Materials Management, Project Package Development, and Testing Requirements for Owner and Contractors,
- Ability to drive up tool time (Productivity) for contractors with respect to approved Capital Projects, working directly with Operations to make sure that Contractors work is ready to start and properly tagged out (LOTO), and helping Contractor understand the Safe Work Permit process, ultimately driving down construction costs for a project.
- Working experience with SAP a plus.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Project.
