Where the Chemistry Happens…

The Process Optimization Engineer ensures the optimization of site-wide plant processes. This includes, but is not limited to, improving process operating methods and process parameters, implementing asset strategies, and optimizing specific energy consumption and yield consumptions. In addition, s/he will facilitate and contribute to systematic reductions in unplanned -losses within the production processes. As with all roles, this should also further the development and improvement of safety aspects of the unit. In addition, the incumbent will consult across organizations and globally to lead and advance business goals, and to enhance technical/process/discipline expertise in the organization.

The Staff Process Optimization Engineer will work as a member of the Operations Lead Team and provide optimization services to the entire site depending on asset strategies and debottlenecking needs. The role is responsible for optimization of assets > $1 billion in replacement value with CM1 > $400,000 per day.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Lead work efforts and/or projects/assignments with substantial risk, business impact, and complex technical challenges.
- Consult across organizations and globally to advance business goals and to enhance technical/process/discipline expertise in the organization.
- Interact with Global Technology team and advise as Technology Competence on stand-alone site processes. Coordinate and share knowledge with the local and global technology centers, including Benchmarking.
- Participate in best practice sharing to ensure technical expertise is leveraged globally.
- Propose strategies that apply new concepts and technologies that will have substantial long-term business impact.
- Be responsible for plant specific optimization strategy (e.g., procedures, automation, operator systems, plant organization).
- Work independently, with limited supervision and review by Manager, to maintain daily conformance to schedule to support corporate and business objectives.
- Engage daily with Continuous Improvement leader, Asset Engineer, Process Optimization Engineer and Automation groups to optimize plant utilization and KPIs.
- Interface with all Centers of Excellence (CoEs), Global Technology and plant service/support groups (TES, quality, LEAN, Safety, and OPEX).

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry required; advanced degree preferred.
- A minimum of 10 years in manufacturing/process engineering.
- Results-oriented with strong implementation skills.
- Experience with managing projects; familiarity with process automation and controls a plus.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- A high level of influencing skills to achieve results without direct supervision.
- Must be able to work in a diverse team environment - working closely with mechanics, operators, engineers, management, and global teams to solve problems and address systemic issues related to equipment reliability.
- Sound technical knowledge of instrumentation, electrical, and mechanical equipment (rotating and fixed).
- Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office, OSI Pi, Lotus Notes, and SAP.
