Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are seeking a Technology Chemist for our McIntosh, AL site to support the development and implementation of technology innovation to achieve strategic business objectives through process safety, capital project support, process optimization, and process automation.

Technology Chemist (1701289) – McIntosh, AL

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Direct, manage, and evaluate the performance of the plant processes allocated.
- Ensure continuous improvement, step changes and innovation by:
- Developing new ideas, building on existing ideas or collecting suggestions at shop floor. Track the idea and lead it to its natural conclusion. Provide progress updates and ad hoc reports to support tracking of innovation efforts to the Technology Manager.
- Providing technical feasibility and lab confirmation of potential capital improvements.
- Prioritizing work based on business requirement, seeking help from Technology Manager in case of conflicts.
- Support the capital budgeting process ensuring the availability of capital for improvement and the justification to allocate funds.
- Perform the functions of a technology expert:
- Participate in cross-functional teams to develop innovation chain improvements and solve plant problems.
- Expert of process in North America for assigned manufacturing process.
- Champion new ideas, product development, inspire for excellence and trust, and work in a team environment.
- Team member to develop a culture of innovation and growth within the assigned manufacturing plants.
- Support the plant and business goals (e.g., cost, safety, production, quality, and people).
- Provide input and ideas for capacity growth planning.
- Facilitate the data collection and evaluation for benchmarking activities:
- Identify and prepare justification for best in class process technology.
- Develop knowledge base of internal technology to compare with external (competitor) technology, using this knowledge base to seek out opportunities for process improvement in the five equalities.
- Initiate, develop and co-lead production tests.
- Share and apply knowledge and experiences from other members of the Global Technology Group.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You …
- BS in Chemistry required OR advanced degree in Chemistry, desired
- 5 years’ in-depth research know-how including bench scale operation and problem solving in the specific manufacturing technology
- Prior knowledge and experience with HALS, Benzotriazole and Antioxidants chemistry as well as current process knowledge is desired.
- Demonstrated ability to provide leadership at shop level. Creating and achieving a desired future vision through influence on organizational values, individual group goals, reinforcements and systems
- Interpersonal skills to develop teamwork with peers and superiors, both internal and external to BASF
- Manage operations of process simulation in lab, provide second line of troubleshooting
- Provide support to production for projects to install and start-up new technology
- Ability to adapt and work effectively in an environment characterized by recurring change, uncertainty, or ambiguity
- Proven record of developing creative solutions to new problems, or continuously improving systems and processes
- Demonstrated experience of taking action to achieve goals beyond what is required, to be proactive rather than reactive, and to solve problems without being assigned
- Knowledge of OSHA and EPA requirements
