Where the Chemistry Happens…

Reporting to the Site Manager, the Operations Manager has the responsibility to ensure the safe, efficient, and effective operation of production and logistics areas in the Edgar CC plant. In addition, the role will manage all aspects of key manufacturing areas: Slurry feed receiving/blending, spray drying, calcining. This position is also responsible for all shipping activities for CC in the plant, which requires overall coordination of production and logistics, and scheduling health and safety, ecology, quality assurance, coaching, and development. The Operations Manager complies with policies, regulations and BASF values for safety, quality, environmental, and financial stewardship, and serves as a member of the Site Leadership Team.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Provide plant floor supervision and leadership to ensure EHS compliance. Drive and champion risk reduction activities for the safety, ecology, and health for all production employees. Serve as the champion of the Zero Incident mindset program to positively promote safety for all employees.
- Drive manufacturing performance by directing all production in the plant, and meet schedules that allow for superior customer satisfaction and high plant efficiency by establishing and executing operating plans and objectives.
- Maintain financial stewardship through the execution of budget planning and cost control to meet projected profitability targets. Achieve business results.
- Direct process capability and efficiency efforts to reduce overall operating costs and improve plant operations. Lead continuous improvement, corrective action, and problem-solving activities. Create teams to focus on reducing areas of waste and maximizing productivity.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers.
- Establish process metrics and develop a system to achieve and maintain performance at targeted levels.
- Staff, manage, coach, motivate, train, and assess performance of plant employees, both exempt and nonexempt. Staffing levels range from 35-45 (exempt and production hourly) based on business demand. Support the operation of 7 calciners, 4 spray dryers, 2 blend systems, 2 bulk load-out systems, and associated equipment.
- Support business and technical aspects of capital project improvements.
- Foster teamwork with subordinates, peers, and superiors, both internal and external to Edgar.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Chemical Engineering or other engineering and/or technical discipline.
- At least 10 years of demonstrated leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to lead, direct, and manage cross-functional teams in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment, displaying technical competence and a continuous improvement mindset.
- Financial management skills, including fixed cost control.
- Experience with Operational Excellence programs and Continuous Improvement in leadership and contributing roles. Training and/or certification in Lean Six Sigma a plus.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, problem-solving, and organizational skills, including the ability to interface with internal and external customer contacts. Must be able to communicate to all levels of the organization.
- Must possess a high level of initiative, and independent decision-making ability.
- Establish and maintain facility environmental, safety, and health standards to minimize employee and community exposure.
- Experience working in a union environment is a plus.
