Where the Chemistry Happens…

The Quality Laboratory Supervisor will organize and direct the daily activities of the laboratory and is responsible for supervising laboratory personnel, conducting and overseeing quality assurance, and control of raw materials and finishing products. S/he will perform these tasks within the scope of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System and RCMS Management System in compliance with all certification requirements for the BASF Edgar CCR site located in McIntyre, GA. This role will also evaluate data using appropriate software to ensure results meet internal and external specifications, and will support continuous improvement activities in the lab and across the plant.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Continuously improve the housekeeping in the lab by following 5S principles.
- Review, modify, and update procedures and work instructions.
- Maintain lab procedures are being followed (including the calciner area).
- Ensure the lab is provided with all necessary supplies for its normal operation.
- Implement SPC in critical machines. Monitor and interpret SPC charts to take appropriate actions.
- Maintain chemical standards documentation and ensure re-certification is completed and documented.
- Participate in root cause analysis with production, process engineering, and R&D teams.
- Collaborate with the MIDGA calibration team to ensure all machines are following the schedule. In addition, the successful incumbent should develop skills in calibrating and performing regular maintenance on equipment.
- Participate in audits or activities outside the lab to comply with business goals.
- Work with operations, process engineering, and R&D to ensure new products and run plans are being followed as designed.
- Cultivate a commercial relationship with vendors to ensure maintenance contracts are being followed according to terms.
- Oversee lab work shift schedules in the lab, and complete time cards on a weekly basis.
- Perform routine chemical reactions, plant processes, sample collection in the plant, crosscheck with other labs, plant analytical instrumentation maintenance/verification.
- Complete Measurement System Analysis in a frequent manner, following the MSA program established.
- Support meetings, activities, and actions of the Lab Alignment and QAC groups.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 4+ years of Quality experience in laboratories related with manufacturing environment, required; OR an associate's degree with 6+ years of Quality experience in laboratories related with manufacturing environment, required.
- A degree in Chemical Engineering is preferable.
- Strong understanding of chemical processes and QA/QC activities.
- ISO 9001 certification preferred, along with awareness of Quality Management System concepts.
- Developed understanding of general chemistry and laboratory safety.
- Previous experience managing people is required; leadership within a union environment desired.
- Developed computer skills using software packages such as Minitab, Microsoft Office, and SAP.
- Well-developed analytical methodology and an insight into troubleshooting and problem-solving.
- Good communication skills (oral and written)
- Yellow or Green Belt Six Sigma certification desired.
