Where the Chemistry Happens…

This position holds responsibilities for support and implementation of the control systems (e.g., DCS, PLC, SIS). The main responsibility is to deliver and maintain Control Systems that meet Production’s requirements, perform functionality and safety obligations, and maximize system capability. This includes the leadership of the system migration and lifecycle process, maintenance recommendation and oversight of installed base equipment, membership on key control systems related teams, coordination of concepts with Productivity team.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Manage all control systems for site:
- Oversee control system critical spare parts.
- Be responsible for lifecycle status, and develop diagnosis concept and periodic health check of installed base control systems with coordination with the Technologist.
- Develop and maintain long-term control systems (DCS, PLC, and SIS) migration plans for their assigned plant with the Production Technologist and Technicians.
- Provide expertise as a resource in Advanced Process Control. This provides a resource for any area Model Predictive Control systems, along with managing the area control systems.
- Track Total Cost of Ownership for control systems. This includes monitoring failures, assisting in initial hardware installations, maintenance contract tracking and communication, optimizing software version upgrades, and vendor liaison issues such as quick fixes for system problems.
- Assign and keep record of all I/O points in the area.
- Provide expert support for the control systems:
- Perform advanced control and graphic configuration on systems in an assigned area beyond the capabilities of the technician and specialists.
- Maintain a collaborative relationship with the Global Procurement Verbund Team and participate on the Peer Working Group.
- Understand plant-specific requirements and control systems, and provide technical expertise for other systems and communications protocols.
- Lead, coordinate, and/or implement root cause failure analysis on significant failures.
- Responsible for the standardization of all control systems:
- Be responsible for the standardization and Quality of all control systems configurations.
- Organize and coordinate technology and best practice-sharing exchanges between control systems vendors, Production Technologist, and their support functions to allow the performance of the control systems and their associated activities to function to their highest level. This position will own, maintain, and communicate all best practices documents.
- Responsible for documentation of all control systems in a specific area:
- Maintain master plan on assigned areas Control Systems. Ensure all systems comply with Corporate Standards.
- Maintain all logic documentation for the production area for both instrument technicians and production technicians. This includes INtools updates as required.
- Develop and ensure maintenance of a database of key advanced process control installations in their area and help ensure their functionality. Communicate any issues with the Production Control Systems Engineers.
- Develop, implement, document, and maintain manuals for every control system in the production areas.
- Supports Capital projects in area requiring interface to control systems:
- Define, engineer, and implement control systems associated with capital projects in an area.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical/Electrical Engineering or Computer Science and 7 years of experience; OR Master’s degree and 5 years of experience; OR Ph.D. and 2 years of experience.
- At least 10 years of experience in supporting control systems in an industrial manufacturing industry
- Prior specific control system experience including, but not limited to, Foxboro, Honeywell, Triconex, Allen Bradley, Siemens, Hima, Modicon, Delta V, and ABB.
- Ability to take diverse perspectives and turn it into a clear and concise plan. Capable of quickly identifying problem areas and defining path forward.
- Ability to perform complex configurations in a plant.
