Where the Chemistry Happens…

The Process Development Chemist II/III role will support site manufacturing operations by leading process optimization projects, coordinating new product/process introductions, and implementing innovation projects to achieve site objectives in the most safe, economical and efficient manner. In addition to the regional groups, the successful candidate will collaborate closely with the global product management, technology, research and development, and manufacturing teams to develop new products and processes to provide proactive solutions for our customers and business teams.

Responsibilities of a Process Development Chemist II/III include but are not limited to:
- Work directly and effectively in the laboratory and/or the pilot plant
- Adhere to and develop as needed laboratory and/or pilot plant procedures
- Keep good laboratory records both in lab notebooks and in electronic databases
- Demonstrate capability to understand processes and identify unusual results
- Provide guidance to production for adjusting process parameters to help resolve quality and/or processing problems
- Lead or participate in process design teams to optimize processes
- Handle several projects in parallel
- Have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel in a matrix organization
- Resolve process and/or laboratory problems through root cause analysis
- Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…


· Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering or a Bachelor’s degree and five years of pigment industry related experience is required

· Working knowledge of different pigment Milling technologies strongly preferred

· Working knowledge of chemical processes both batch and continuous operations required

· Functional computer skills (Microsoft office, SAP) required

· Working knowledge of technical computer skills (ASPEN, OSI PI, CAD) preferred


· Minimum 5 years of technical experience in the Chemical industry required

· Working knowledge of OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) Requirements preferred

· Familiarity developing Standard Operating Procedures required

· Must be able to work independently, possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and serve as a member of or interface with multi-disciplinary teams.
