We are seeking a Research Biologist/Entomologist to join our Agricultural Products Division (APN), based in Research Triangle Park, NC.

Research Biologist/Entomologist (1800046) – RTP, NC

We are seeking an enthusiastic team player as a Research Biologist in the Insecticide Biology Research Group at BASF's research facility in Research Triangle Park, NC. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary program focused on the discovery and biological characterization of novel insecticides.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- You will be assigned to the Non-Crop Advanced Testing Team to:
- Develop, design and conduct biological assays in the laboratory to characterize experimental urban/rural pest control agents for their potential to control non-crop pests.
- Weigh, formulate and apply experimental and commercial insecticides to pest targets and their habitats. Assess insect behavior and susceptibility; and prepare written formal reports/presentations on experimental procedures and results.
- Perform limited greenhouse and field work.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…
- BS degree with at least 2 years relevant experience. Degree could be in the field of agriculture, horticulture, entomology or crop protection.
- Be a self-starter, confident communicator, with good team skills.
- Willing and able to handle compounds of unknown toxicity safely.
- Able to lift 15kg and work in greenhouse and agricultural field environments.
- Working knowledge of entomology and laboratory techniques.
- Ability to work as member of diverse team and communicate research results within the team.

We Also Look For…
- PhD, MS with at least 2 years relevant experience, or BS with at least 4 years relevant experience. Degree focus on whole organism biology with course work in entomology, pest management, crop protection and statistics including experimental design and analysis.
- Previous experience in non-crop/urban pest control or research in insect ecology including: 1. safe laboratory, greenhouse and field procedures; measuring and diluting chemical treatments; use of common treatment application equipment (pipette, spray devices, micro-applicators); assessing organism response to treatment (incl. dissecting/microscope skills), good lab hygiene, experience working with animal health pests (e.g., fleas, ticks, litter beetles, biting flies) 2. experimental documentation, proper entry of data into notebooks, writing data summaries/reports (Excel, Word), data analysis (ANOVA, logDose-Probit), and data presentation (incl. graphics software, photography, oral presentation).
- Ability to plan and implement next research steps based on generated results. Demonstrated ability to communicate research findings to internal research groups / stakeholders.
