Where the Chemistry Happens…

The position is for an experienced Entomologist in the Global Insecticide Research Group (APR/IA) at BASF's research facility in Research Triangle Park, NC.

Formula for Success: You Will…

You will be part of a team that is a key resource for the development of new insecticidal products at BASF. The team’s task is to thoroughly characterize new insecticidal products in all relevant agronomic aspects and to manage the lab-to-field transition for new actives in our research pipeline.

As a member of this team, you will efficiently plan and execute trial programs in a lab, greenhouse or field trial environment. Compounds evaluated in this program range from early research compounds up to registered market products.

It will be your task to carry out trial work programs with a high level of independence; from planning of the trial set-up, through execution of the trial work, to a thorough evaluation and reporting of the results. The execution of the trials involves the use of plants and living insects as well as the proper handling of chemicals, including research compounds of unknown toxicity. You will contribute to the team’s success by developing new methodologies and incorporating new technologies into the team’s repertoire.

More specifically, you will be the team’s key resource in the area of seed/soil applied insecticides and their application methods. You will lead the technical expertise on methodologies in both areas and understand market requirements and standards in the segments.

As seed treatment and soil applied insecticide expert, you will communicate efficiently within the team and with colleagues in other functions of our organization. You will analyze the results of your work and provide meaningful recommendations for future activities in the specific projects.

You will assume responsibility for coaching and leading junior employees, especially in the areas of safety and technical aspects.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…
- PhD with 2 years, or MS with 4 years, or BS with 6 years in Biology or an Agricultural Science.
- Experience working with whole insects & plants.
- In depth knowledge and experience in Entomology is required.
- Industry-relevant technical experience with soil applied insecticides is a requirement
- Industry-relevant technical experience with insecticidal seed treatments is a requirement
- You will need to be willing to work with compounds of unknown toxicity in a lab, greenhouse and field environment which can be physically demanding.
- Candidate must pass a physical and be capable of wearing a half mask respirator.

- PhD with 5 years, or MS with 7 years, or BS with 9 years Biology or an Agricultural Science.
- Overview on market and relevant standards for soil and seed treatment insecticides.
- Applied Entomology degree
- Knowledge and field research experience with nematicides
