Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are seeking a Senior Scientist to join the Computational Chemistry & Bioinformatics group within the global Digitalization in Research and Development function at our site in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina.

You will work closely with other researchers, computational biologists and bioinformaticians in providing data analysis support. You will take the lead role in analyzing and integrating diverse biological data (next generation sequencing, large scale genomic, proteomic, metabolomic and phenotypic data). You will provide technical leadership on one or more projects involving gene expression analysis, genome sequence analysis, assembly, and annotations through leveraging diverse genomics datasets and computational tools. In addition, you will be working as part of multifunctional project teams and contribute towards development of novel R&D strategies.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Be responsible for pipeline development for large next-generation sequencing data sets
- Implement public and proprietary bioinformatics/genomics tools and algorithms, including resources for model plant or crop informatics
- Curate and manage large datasets to meet end user requirements
- Develop, optimize and apply pipelines and algorithms for processing and analyzing biological data
- Communicate data analysis and interpret to scientists from diverse backgrounds
- Evaluate tools and coordinate efforts between the project teams and IT groups to define, validate and implement software for data management and analysis
- Mentor junior scientists in scientific and technical aspects of data analysis, troubleshooting complex problems and managing expectations
- Work independently and collaboratively
- Define requirements and interpret results for scientists
- Engage with internal and external scientific groups towards analytical workflow development

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…
- PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology or a related field with 2+ years Bioinformatics analysis experience OR MS with 5+ years Bioinformatics analysis experience OR BS with 7+ years Bioinformatics analysis experience
- Experience establishing bioinformatics pipelines in multiple areas including gene expression, genome assembly, gene prediction, and gene structural/functional annotation
- Proficiency with UNIX/Linux and demonstrated experience in use of various bioinformatics and data analysis applications
- Computing skills with Perl or Python and other scripting/programming languages
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and demonstrated ability to lead projects and mentor other scientists
- Must be goal oriented, customer focused and able to work in a fast-paced international team setting

What we also like to see in you:
- PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Molecular Biology or a related field with 5+ years Bioinformatics analysis experience
- Experience with model plant or crop bioinformatics
- SQL and knowledge of database design
- Understanding of statistical analysis methods
- Experience in the following areas of computational biology:
- Plant genome sequence analysis, assembly, and annotation
- Metagenomics
- Pathway and functional analysis
- Proteomics
- Implementation of data integration and visualization tools
