Innovation Specialist

The Innovation Specialist position, within our Agricultural Division, offers a unique opportunity for a professional to combine their respective sales and technical background to promote the industry leading innovations to growers.

Reporting to the Innovation Specialist Regional Sales Manager, the Innovation Specialist will be responsible for driving accelerated sales growth of BASF’s new innovations to assigned growers; developing, cultivating and maintaining business relationships with top growers; as well as working effectively with retail partners and BASF team mates. The Innovation Specialist will also actively prospect for new business to expand their customer base. Specific responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:

Drive Accelerated Sales Growth:
- Actively identifying and calling on growers to communicate the value of BASF’s new innovations, focusing on the benefits of using BASF crop protection products and services.
- Developing a value based sales strategy for each customer based on their unique needs, interests and business goals and objectives resulting in a customized solution.
- Meeting or exceeding innovation sales goals with grower customer base.

Innovation Leadership:
- Partnering with technical development specialists, area sales teams, retailers and channel partners to be the growers’ innovation product expert.
- Developing business strategies and tactics that meet the needs of targeted growers including developing short and long term action plans to anticipate and respond to market dynamics.
- Educating growers on the use of new innovations
- Positioning new innovations and communicate value messages to targeted growers.
- Technically competent on innovative BASF brands.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Business or Science such as Agriculture, Chemistry or Biology.
- 2 - 5 years of experience in relative selling or technical background within an Ag related field such as seed, chemical, equipment or crop consulting.
- Obtain CCSC and/or P Ag within 2 years of hire.
- Completion of BASF Technical Training modules over 1 year including core products, additional products, solutions selling and APA training.
- Proven success with large growers.
- Strong inter-personal and communication skills and the ability to develop strong; successful business relationships with customers as well as internal teammates.
- Ability to self-manage time and resources and to allocate time and energy appropriately, resulting in achievement of goals.
- Excellent computer skills, with proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as CRM database technology.
- Willingness to travel overnight/weekly.
- Passionate about making a difference in the agriculture industry.

Desired:
- Masters or advanced degree in related field an asset.
- Current Certified Crop Advisor (CCA). A valid CCA will be a requirement for next level promotion within the Innovation Specialist role (Innovation Specialist II).
