BASF - the Chemical Company - consolidated its plant biotechnology activities in BASF Plant Science in 1998. Today, about 700 employees are working to optimize crops for more efficient agriculture, renewable raw materials and healthier nutrition. We are currently looking for an Infrastructure Coordinator.

As part of the IT & BI staff of BPS in North America and the Global Infrastructure Sub-Function, the Infrastructure Coordinator will be primarily responsible for developing, implementing and supporting hardware and software applications used by scientists for research processes and analyzing data at the RTP site, as well as other users in BPS outside the research functions. The Coordinator will work closely with BASF Corporate IT representatives at RTP and in New Jersey, as well as undertake collaborative initiatives with other BPS and BASF colleagues, or those outside the company. Tasks related to this position will involve, but are not limited to:
- Working closely with NTS colleagues to ensure that the BPS infrastructure needs are effectively addressed in the USA, in line with the strategy of the BPS IT/BI Infrastructure Sub-Function
- Providing support to the other IT/BI Sub-Functions in the USA, as needed, to ensure that their infrastructure and basic application needs are met
- Acting as the primary interface between users in BPS and the Help Desk
- Responding to user questions
- Testing changes/updates
- Helping to create and maintain application documentation (ie. user manuals and training documents)
- Performing designated administrative functions
- Helping with training of users
- Aiding in day-to-day processes
- Participating in other IT or BI related groups/projects, as necessary and assigned

This position will be based in RTP, NC and may require travel to meetings and/or seminars at other locations.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Required qualifications:
- BS degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Bioinformatics, or a closely related field plus 8 years of experience providing infrastructure support (including academic or industry involvement) to a scientific software applications development group -OR- Associates degree in the same plus 12 years of experience. Additional experience may be substituted for educational requirement. BASF recognizes Institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent.
- Strong computer skills with a working knowledge of the UNIX/LINUX environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills plus excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Willingness to handle confidential information and data.
- Skilled multi-tasking while maintaining a high degree of detailed attentiveness.
- Strong organizational skills to meet day-to-day, short term and long term requirements.

Preferred qualifications:
- At least 3 years experience working in a plant biotechnology R&D or IT & Bioinformatics group supporting their infrastructure.
- Demonstrated ability to understand the basic scientific concepts involved in plant biotechnology, to enable effective requirements gathering and user support activities.
- Demonstrated ability to handle complex Data Management issues, as well as knowledge of data/document backup, restore and recovery, etc.
- Previous experience in developing and writing application user manuals and preparing user training documents.
- Demonstrated ability to work in multidisciplinary local and global teams.
- Ability to speak and write fluently in foreign languages (ie. German, Spanish, Portuguese, French or Chinese).
