Formula for Success: You Will……

BASF's Enzymes facility in San Diego, CA is seeking an experienced Enzyme Formulation Scientist.
- Under the guidance of senior formulation scientist, conduct critical experiments to support research and development projects for enzyme pre-formulation and formulation, including technology development and product development.
- The responsibilities include preparation of formulation samples, conducting biophysical and biochemical analysis, pre-formulation and formulation screenings, formulation stability studies, development and optimization of new analytical methods and assays, and analysis and evaluation of experimental results.
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and fast paced environment, both independently and in a team. Ability to follow guidance from team and project leaders, in the meantime the ability to work independently on assignments.
- Serving as a key contributor and technical expert in enzyme formulation research. Playing a key role in the planning, design and implementation of critical experiments, ability to draw logical conclusions. The position requires flexibility, creativity and detailed scientific approach to achieve targets and deliver results to meet tight timelines.
- The position requires detail-oriented and well-organized individual, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to document studies, authoring study reports, and presenting results timely and clearly to project teams.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…
- Master’s degree in analytical chemistry, biochemistry, biophysics, biology, chemistry, pharmaceutical chemistry or chemical engineering or similar area and a minimum of 4+ years of experience in an industrial lab setting; or a Ph. D. degree with relevant dissertation or 1+ years of experience.
- Strong knowledge in the areas of protein formulation, protein stability, protein solubility, protein folding/unfolding, protein structural or aggregation analysis.
- Extensive experience in a biochemical, biophysical or analytical laboratory setting.
- Expert knowledge and experience are essential in multiple (three or more of the following) analytical techniques for protein biophysics and biochemistry, including SDS-PAGE, spectroscopy, DLS, SLS, DSC, fluorescence thermal shift, HPLC (size exclusion, ion exchange, reverse phase methods). Ability to independently develop and optimize analytical methods.
- Critical thinking and analysis of data will be central to this position and implementation of experimental design with minimal supervision is required; ability to hypothesize, design experiments independently and draw conclusions.

We Also Look For…
- Knowledge in ingredient selections for protein formulations, particularly industrial enzyme formulations are highly desirable. Experience working with enzymes in detergent, food, feed, grain processing or other industrial applications is a plus.
- Knowledge and experience of DOE experimental design and statistical analysis is a plus.
- Knowledge and experience in other analytical methods for protein higher order structure and chemical modifications are desirable, including mass spectrometry, CE, MALS, fluorescence, or others.
- Experience in protein purification and FPLC is a plus.
