Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are seeking an entry level Laboratory Automation Engineer, to join the High Throughput Screening team. Our lab supports large screens for enzyme product development, as well as daily operations across multiple scientific disciplines. We build and maintain our own robotic systems, in collaboration with both third-party vendors and internal BASF colleagues.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Operate, program, validate and troubleshoot workflows on integrated robotic systems, including robotic arms, liquid handlers, plate dispensers, readers, seals, peelers, and more.
- Run routine methods, sample prep, and support daily operations in the Automation lab.
- Interface with scientists and engineers, and act as a liaison between the Automation team and our colleagues at the site.
- Work with procurement and outside vendors to allow purchasing and maintenance of equipment and services.
- Manage a routine maintenance and calibration plan for all automation equipment.
- Maintain organization in the lab and machine shop, including inventory, regular service of equipment, etc.
- Deliver and present basic data analysis regarding screening campaigns and robustness of lab operations.
- Maintain 100% compliance with EH&S policies and procedures.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- BS degree in science or engineering with 0-5 years of experience in a laboratory
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally, and in writing (Microsoft Office proficient)
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary and fast-paced environment, both independently and in a team setting
- Ability to troubleshoot quickly under pressure, and make decisions when necessary
- Eager to learn, not afraid to ask questions, and to come up with creative solutions
- Highly motivated and enthusiastic team player with organizational skills, excellent attention to detail and good time management skills
- Basic data and statistical analysis experience
- This position requires physical activity including climbing short ladders and stools, reaching around equipment as well as lifting and moving small pieces of equipment 25 pounds or less.
- Knowledge and experience in the safe use of standard power tools, for example hand drills, table saws, and grinders is required.

We Also Look For…
- Familiarity with Biology/ Enzymes preferred
- Experience with automated liquid handling systems preferred (Agilent VWorks, Retisoft Genera, Hamilton Venus)
- Programming experience (Java, Java Script, C++) preferred
- Experience with basic plate handling instrumentation (spectrophotometers, dispensers/washers, etc.) preferred
- CAD design experience (Inventor, Pro/E, SolidWorks) preferred
