The Seneca, SC Plant is a specialty chemical catalysts manufacturing and precious metals refining facility. The Area (Production) Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating the plant production for the Preparation of Refining Materials.

Area (Production) Manager, Prep (1800115) – Seneca, SC

Initiate and lead efforts to safely achieve planned production goals and objectives. Manage production operations to ensure safe and efficient production within established standards of Safety, Health, Quality, Cost and Environmental Protection. Have a demonstrated ability to lead employee engagement through Behavioral Based Safety processes and can support the BASF Journey to EHS Excellence.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Manage the assigned Area with Safety as a value. Lead Prep Area EHS improvement initiatives while demonstrating safety leadership, driving engagement though Seneca’s Behavioral Safety process, and employing tools provided by BASF’s Journey to EHS Excellence.
- Achieve production goals while meeting established standards of Safety, Efficiency Quality, Cost and Environmental Protection.
- Maintain appropriate precious metal controls and support BASF metal control practices to ensure customer lot integrity and to minimize precious metal loss.
- Utilize Lean / Six Sigma tools for continuous improvement of Prep Area operations.
- Lead 24x7 operations of the Prep Area by working with the Shift Supervisors and other Area Managers to ensure that production objectives are safely and efficiently met.
- Coordinate maintenance activities so that priorities and schedules can be set.
- Ensure repair of equipment with a minimum of down time.
- Ensure effective training of Prep Area personnel.
- Maintain an atmosphere of inclusion and mutual respect among all employees and supervision in the assigned area and across the site.
- Communicate and interact effectively with support functions to ensure effective and efficient area operations.
- Manage department within established cost guidelines.
- Provide leadership to team of 50+ personnel (production supervisors, operators and support personnel).
- Interact with Operations Management and Technical / Engineering support.

Qualifications – NOTE: Not all positions are eligible for cross-regional relocation/work authorization. Cross regional is defined as movement between countries (e.g. Canada to U.S.).

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…
- BS in Engineering discipline (preferably in Chemical, Mechanical or Industrial) or related technical discipline with minimum 5 years’ experience in a Chemical Manufacturing or Precious Metals Refining Operations. A minimum of 12 years in a Chemical Manufacturing or Precious Metals Refining Operations will substitute for a BS.
- Experience in Materials Handling is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership capability with at least 2 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety standards for manufacturing required.
- Experience in Manufacturing quality systems and ISO 9000 Standards preferred
- Computer skills – MS Excel and MS Word required, SAP a plus
- Demonstrated application of Statistical Process Control
- Continually fosters innovation and embraces change, especially in difficult environments.
