The Seneca, SC Plant is a specialty chemical catalysts manufacturing and precious metals refining facility. The Prep Operations Engineer is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the Preparation of Refining Materials Area.

Operations Engineer, Preparation Area (Prep) (1800657) – Seneca, SC

You will support the day to day operation of the Prep Area, providing technical assistance in executing the required production plan. This role will owns Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), Equipment Procedures (EP’s) and Batch Instructions, leads troubleshooting efforts, and interact with Operations, Maintenance, and other operational support personnel. As you deliver process improvements in quality, productivity, cost and environmental compliance, you must also demonstrate strong leadership in safe plant operation and adherence to BASF Occupational and Process Safety rules and policies. You will be instrumental in leading troubleshooting efforts when problems arise and are a solution provider. This position requires strong leadership in safety and Behavioral Based Safety processes which support the BASF Journey to EHS Excellence.

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Provide guidance and input to the achievement and development of plant goals, objectives, and operational budgets
- Contribute to the achievement of production goals while meeting established standards of Safety, Efficiency Quality, Cost and Environmental Protection.
- Generate and complete MOCs and revalidate temporary MOCs to confirm they are still valid
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting expertise to Daily Operational Team for plant problems that occur
- Provide leadership in root cause failure analysis for production, EHS, and quality Incidents
- Create / maintain Operating procedures, Process Safety Information, and other process documentation (P&ID’s, equipment specification sheets, etc.)
- Play an important role in driving standardization across shifts and optimization of operating costs; partner with other site/area functions for standardization and best practice sharing across the site
- Work closely with other support groups like Maintenance to ensure that proper priorities are placed on items in the Maintenance backlog
- Be on-call and respond to any after hour event that impacts production or EHS
- Interface with suppliers, customers, and vendors as needed to maintain plant operation
- Support BASF metal control practices to ensure customer lot integrity and to minimize precious metal loss
- Utilize Lean / Six Sigma tools for continuous improvement of Prep Area daily operations
- Maintain an atmosphere of inclusion and mutual respect among all employees and supervision in the assigned area and across the site
- Communicate and interact (collaborate?) effectively with support functions to ensure effective, efficient, and safe area operations
- Support Capital Plan and Project Execution of existing and future Capital projects as Manufacturing Representative (as needed or appropriate)
- Own the optimization of scheduled and unscheduled downtime and overall cycle time improvements (Asset Effectiveness and AE tools)
- Assist the department in the coordination, planning, and execution of shutdown or turnaround work including maintenance and capital activities
- Support environmental and compliance requirements through emissions calculations and spill prevention

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…
- Bachelor of Science degree in and Engineering discipline (preferably Chemical, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering)
- A minimum of 1+ years of experience in a chemical/refining or other similar manufacturing environment required
- Basic familiarity with process equipment operation including boilers, gas fired furnaces, solids handling and milling equipment, powder blending/sampling, etc.
- Understanding of engineering principles and practical application in a plant environment
- Demonstrated experience with continuous improvement and change management initiatives, and Root Cause Analysis
- Ability to adapt to regular changes in priorities as required in a production environment
- Solid written and verbal communication
- Self-starter with high level of results orientation and good teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety standards for manufacturing required.
- Experience in Manufacturing quality systems and ISO 9000 Standards preferred
- Computer skills – MS Access, Excel and MS Word required, SAP a plus
- Demonstrated application of Statistical Process Control
- Continually fosters innovation and embraces change, especially in difficult environments.
- Greenbelt preferred, ability to obtain a Greenbelt status within ~12 months.
