We are seeking a Scientist III, New Business Development to join our Southfield, MI, team.

Scientist III, New Business Development (1700715) – Southfield, MI

You will lead the Coatings Division New Business Development (NBD) project technical activities in North America by translating technical market needs into experimental plans for development of new coating solutions related to NBD projects or proposals.

- Independently develop technical strategies for solving problems, design and perform hands-on experiments
- Summarize and communicate results and recommend next steps
- Knowledge coating technology as well as a diverse & ever changing set of other material science topics. broad understanding of the field of polymers and coating science
- ability to learn new techniques to perform the exploratory experimental work to support those activities
- Invent and adapt new techniques to self-thought experimentation
- Use of new techniques & interactions with start-up companies, university collaborations, external labs, potential customers and various BASF units.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- BS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science or equivalent and 5 years of experience in product development, R&D or technical service in a coatings industry OR M.S degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science and 2 years of experience in product development. R&D or technical service in a coatings industry OR PhD degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science with relevant dissertation or 1-2 years of experience in a coatings industry required
- Coating preparation, application & testing techniques with wet chemistry techniques including polymerization & synthesis preferred
- Basic coating / polymer characterization methods and film performance attributes preferred
- MS Office tools such as PowerPoint, Excel, Word required
