Where the Chemistry Happens…

The Technical Specialist is responsible for bringing solutions to our Coater Ready adhesive customers by working in a collaborative manner with other technical specialist colleagues in the industry, as well as across the organization. This position will perform hands-on laboratory work for technical service projects, including providing customer support for the Technical Account Manager.

Technical Specialist – Printing, Packaging, and Adhesives – Coater Ready (1705558) – Southfield, MI

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Utilize technical know-how on specific product line, test methods for the industry and/or product use in industry-specific applications to sell BASF product in industry/sub-segment; support test method development in conjunction with external test method societies.
- Serve as an individual contributor by developing and testing formulated solutions.
- Perform hands-on work in the lab and coach the pool of Application Laboratory Chemists and Technicians, and be responsible for demonstrating the value of the product.
- Stay current with trends, development, and innovations in focus industry and relevant product lines; maintain knowledge of customer application testing, and support business growth through paper presentations at trade shows/conference and training of direct and indirect customers.
- Provide on-site customer support for Technical Account Manager if needed.
- Work in compliance with EH&S and ISO standards.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Printing and Packaging, or Materials Science plus a minimum of 5 years of experience in polymer formulation for adhesives or related applications OR a Master’s degree and at least 2 years of experience in polymer formulation for adhesives or related applications OR a Ph.D.
- Strong record of industry technical leadership and experience in Adhesives - Coater Ready
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, presentation)
- Solid record of working with multi-faceted teams through knowledge-sharing, coaching, and mentoring
- Ability to identify R&D opportunities through interaction and knowledge of markets, industry, and customers; a champion of R&D pipeline filling
