We are seeking a Technical Team Leader for our Colors & Effects subsidiary and who can lead our Application Laboratory team who work on technical service projects for existing and new products to support growth with our customers. The position is located in Southfield, MI>

This new global business unit focuses on the pigments business and even more specifically, is focused on supporting the needs of our pigments customers. Creating an organization fully dedicated to pigments allows BASF to adapt better to the challenges in the pigments industry. Our customers will benefit from tailored services and higher responsiveness. BASF’s pigments business serves a variety of industries including paints & coatings, printing & packaging and plastics. The portfolio comprises of color pigments such as phthalocyanines, high performance pigments, azo pigments, effect pigments, inorganic pigments, dyes and pigment. Technical Team Leader – Pigments Application Laboratory (1703055) in Southfield, MI

You will be part of the Technical Lab Americas in the Technical Service group that provides customer support for the industries Coatings, Plastics, Printing & Specialties. In addition to coordinating lab work of Application Laboratory Technicians and Chemists through general direction/collaboration with Technical Specialists and Industry Management, you will be responsible for equipment, executing SOP/JSA, and coaching & developing your team. You will report to the Technical Manager.

Formula for Success: You Will…

-Lead and develop Technicians and Chemists (establishes project plans, resources), EH&S and ISO standards in lab, direct the team's efforts to effectively execute lab projects.

-Actively participate and maintain close communications with line manager, Technical Specialists, Technology & Development, Quality & Regulatory, and Industry Management.

-Responsible for ensuring direct reports are trained in application test methods and BASF product line in respective industry.

-Support prioritization of technical projects and customer requests and manage complex project work load and required lab resources for projects.

-Support harmonization of processes and reporting systems.

-Responsible for laboratory compliance in EH&S and ISO standards and work in compliance with EH&S and ISO standards [minimum expectation].

Qualifications – NOTE: Not all positions are eligible for cross-regional relocation/work authorization. Cross regional is defined as movement between countries (e.g. Canada to U.S.).

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…

-Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Material Science or another similar technical discipline and minimum 7+ years of experience in the chemical industry, M.S. in Chemical Engineering , Chemistry or Materials Science or another similar technical discipline and minimum 5+ years of experience in in the chemical industry, OR PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science or another similar technical discipline and minimum 3+ years of experience in the chemical industry.

-Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, presentation) including direct reports and cross-functional teams/colleagues.

-Excellent track record of leading and managing projects.

-Leading, managing and training of small teams is a plus. Preferred is experience in managing others.

-6S or implementation of safety programs is a plus.
