Where the Chemistry Happens…

We are currently searching for motivated Production Manager for our BASF Agricultural Solutions business (APN) in St. Joseph, MO.

You will be responsible for the Fermentation, Filling and Packaging Operations of rhizobium inoculants and non-rhizobium products to the required quality standards within budgeted costs, while complying with ISO 9001 standards & OSHA regulations.

We develop and produce innovative biological seed solutions to assist farmers in meeting the growing demand for improved agricultural productivity. BASF Agricultural Solutions’ mission is to help today’s growers meet the challenges of tomorrow’s hungry world.

Production Manager (1801326)

This role ensures the safety, quality, and productivity required to meet internal and external demands and regulations. This includes optimization of the processes with the required changes and/or modifications to maintain sustainable continuous improvement and a lean environment. This will be accomplished by evaluating and troubleshooting production and equipment data to identify opportunities for improvements, propose modifications, and/or process changes. The role supports production processes in the fermentation, filling and packaging of the product.

This position will work in a group environment on-site with operators, maintenance, engineers, chemists, contractors, vendors, and management to collect information and troubleshoot issues. Will coordinate resources, people and equipment to ensure safely, quality and production goals are met. There will also be significant interaction with other business functions including Technical / Continuous Improvement, Quality, Supply Chain and Corporate EHS. This information will be utilized independently and in team settings to engineer corrections/improvements to ongoing issues and develop sustainable solutions to prevent reoccurring failures and create culture of continuous improvement.

- Establish and support a safety culture in which all accidents are preventable.
- Assist with improving and achieving Production conformance to schedule by monitoring daily production downtime/operations efficiency through the troubleshooting process and equipment operability issues, identify root causes, and implement solutions.
- Provide technical support and guidance to operators, maintenance, fermentation and biologists to support production requirements.
- Provide leadership to Operations team as a member of the Senior Leadership team.
- Monitor all aspects of production to identify improvement opportunities and make recommendations to support continuous improvement with safety performance, regulatory compliance, quality, efficiency, throughput, equipment reliability, waste reduction, and operating cost.
- Support and guide operations with improved communication for site personnel.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look For in You…
- Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Science or Engineering (Extensive experience in the industry can be considered in lieu of your degree being within one of the specific fields previously listed)
- 4+ years of progressive experience within a manufacturing environment
- 4+ years of proven people management/supervisory experience leading and developing a team.
- Results-oriented with strong implementation skills and excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Excellent communication skills with a high level of influencing skills to achieve results through the team.
- Exceptional people development skills.
- Able to work in a diverse team environment, working closely with mechanics, operators, engineers, and management to solve problems and address systemic issues related to equipment reliability.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency in SAP, Microsoft Office and Outlook.

We Also Look For…
- Experience with automation/computer systems is a plus.
- Engineering background is beneficial.
- Agricultural background is an advantage.
- Experience in the following fields; processed food, chemical, fermentation, or related field.
- Micro Biology experience is a plus.
