From designing to running a major production facility, the field of engineering and production at BASF is where true professionals with excellent technical and scientific expertise can apply their knowledge in challenging environments. When it comes to plant engineering and construction on the large scale, many challenges must be overcome. You will have a thorough understanding of the mechanical operation of a wide range of bench test equipment, peripheral lab utilities, as well as small hydraulic vane pumps, which will allow for the ability to troubleshoot, maintain operations, and perform preventive maintenance and repairs. You will perform a variety of lubricant/fuel additive evaluation tests using established procedures, and possess a high comfort level manipulating chemical additives and solvents per laboratory safety practices.

Associate Scientist/Engineer (1703272) – Tarrytown, NY

Formula for Success: You Will…
- Troubleshoot lubricant test equipment and operate tools associated with this equipment, including hydraulic pump equipment.
- Formulate large- and small-scale samples for laboratory testing.
- Ensure equipment being used is property calibrated and in working order.
- Interface with site engineering department when there are equipment issues.
- Handle multiple assignments under close direction of an individual contributor.
- Perform preliminary assessment of the technical information, identifying when results are unusual or suspect; investigate cause of suspect data; define and implement corrective actions.
- Summarize experimental designs and results in written form for presentation to internal stakeholders; periodically present information internally in oral form.
- Author Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and equipment procedures for use by others within the group; proactively identify weaknesses in current procedures and investigate and implement alternatives.
- Develop knowledge of products, markets, and technology within lubricant/fuel industry.
- Maintain a safe and efficient laboratory environment.

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent

Ingredients for Success: What We Look for in You…
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a related scientific discipline required.
- Previous experience in laboratory testing preferred.
- Lab experience in the lubricant or fuel testing area is a plus.
- Understanding of the mechanical operation of a wide range of bench test equipment, peripheral lab utilities, and small hydraulic vane pumps desired.
