The cosmetic effect pigment global development and expert services group in Tarrytown, NY has an opening for a Project Manager. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills, and will be expected to independently manage projections from beginning to end. This position will work with various other teams, including product safety, quality, R&D and will interact with cross functional business functions such as marketing and sales. This person must be self-motivated with a hands-on approach to managing projects. The position reports to the Head of Development and Expert Services, cosmetic effect pigments.

Responsibilities
- Lead and manage multiple R&D phasegate projects from ideation phase through commercial launch for BCE cosmetic effect pigment portfolio
- Develop business cases for phasegate projects and prepare/present all gate presentations for upper management approval
- Manage project budgets to insure conformance with proposed budget
- Work closely with research/synthesis and PDL team, monitoring project status and insuring project performance and appearance targets and timelines are met
- Develop features and benefits package for product launches, identifying unique attributes and positioning new products within our portfolio as well as competitors’ cosmetic effect pigment offerings
- Present and publish technical papers on effect pigment technology and related cosmetic applications
- Actively participate in cosmetic scientific organizations, especially the SCC New York chapter
- Monitor competitor and customer IP for composition of matter and color cosmetics, contributing to our portfolio strategy and future development plans. Be part of the patent team for effect pigments to actively steer our patent portfolio
- Actively participate in our global development efforts and provide strategic direction during the ideation cycles
- Participate on R&D project teams and provide input during the development phase
- Manage a lab team for application and stability testing of new effect pigments

Qualifications - BASF recognizes institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation or equivalent
- BS in Chemistry or related science (PhD. preferred) with min. 5 years experience in project management.
- Strong project management skills, with significant experience in phasegate and effect pigment technology a plus.
- Experience in business case preparation and use of the InnoPet tool to determine net present values for projects, and critical to successful project management.
- Must have demonstrable capability of expanding technical knowledge.
- Self-motivation, high entrepreneurial thinking, customer focus and technical astuteness also required.
- Interpersonal skills and excellent oral and written communication skills are essential, as well as the ability to work and contribute in a team environment.
- Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams towards a common goal.
- Management experience desired.
- Minimal travel regionally for scientific meetings and seminars, as well as internationally as appropriate – approximately 20%.
